Topic Description of the Problems File Information Accessing the Files Field Upgrade Procedure 1 See Page 2 2 3 5 Description of the Problems Exec Firmware Fixes The Exec. and Kernel were updated to fix the following issues: 1. Outputs could come on for 500ms under certain conditions. 2. The LAN ST LED would blink 4 times (duplicate address detected) if a hub or switch is powered up after 2 or more Ethernet NIM’s on a network are powered up. 3. During initialization, the LAN ST LED blink pattern appeared as valid LAN Status codes and could be misinterpreted as an error or status. 4. LAN ST LED blinks 4 times (duplicate address detected) if a link was broken and then reestablished between the NIM and a hub/switch 5. Inconsistent Ethernet NIM response times. 6. Unable to accurately count an error code blink pattern with the ERRor LED. 7. A failure loading the Exec. may randomly occur when using the Loader Utility (dated 12/8/03). Web Firmware Fixes The Web pages, updated to version 1.12.0, were changed with the following: 1. Adds CAN Extension modules to the Web pages. 2. Increased the size of some text boxes that would not properly display all of the characters in that field. Computing Environment To perform this upgrade the following computing environment is required: An IBM-compatible computer running either Windows NT 4.0 (or later) Windows 2000 Windows XP The Exec, Kernel, or Web pages will NOT load using Windows 98. An active TCP/IP network connection to the STB NIP 2212 to be upgraded. You must know the IP address of the STB NIP 2212 to be upgraded. Upgrade Preparation To prepare for the upgrade you will be required to acquire the upgrade file (stbnip2212v116.zip) from Schneider Electric. The zip file contains: An upgrade utility called “upgrade.exe” Note: An updated ‘upgrade.exe’ file (dated 6/16/04) is included and recommended for downloading Ethernet NIM files in the field. The new screen captures are shown in the following steps. An STB NIP 2212 Kernel file (.bin), An STB NIP 2212 executive file (.bin) and A compressed STB NIP 2212 web page archive (.zr) The following procedure will complete the preparation for upgrade: Step 1. Action From an MS-DOS prompt, create a working directory (example: upgrade) on your computer to perform the upgrade. For example: 2. Store the ZIP file acquired from Schneider Electric in the directory just created. 5 Performing the Upgrade Step 3. Action Unzip the files from stbnip2212v116.zip to the ‘upgrade’ directory. 4. Verify that you have the correct files. You should have four additional files: “FBC000.bin”, “FBC000Ker.bin”, “Upgrade.exe” and “web_files.zr” The following procedure will now explain the upgrade: Continued on next page 6 Field Upgrade Procedure, Continued Step 1. Action Through the use of any standard web browser, examine the current firmware and web site version on your STB NIP 2212 by accessing the Properties page. This upgrade will install Exec Version 1.16.0, Kernel 1.7.0, and Web Site 1.12.0. Note: If your STB NIP 2212 is currently at any one of these versions, that portion of this upgrade procedure will not be necessary. 2. Exec Upgrade To perform the upgrade you will need the IP address of your STB NIP 2212. To install the new Executive, enter the following command at your DOS prompt: Upgrade {IP Address} –e FBC000.bin 7 Step 3. Action After hitting <enter> a ‘Warning: Active I/O’ will appear. This warns the user that if a Modbus client is currently communicating to the I/O, the I/O will remain active and operational throughout the download of the Exec. Entering ‘y’ continues this procedure, ‘n’ will abort it. Upon successful completion of the Exec. download, the STB NIP 2212 will be automatically re-booted with the new executive and the I/O will go to its fallback state. If there are no communications to the Island from a Modbus client, the Exec. can be downloaded. Depending on the NIM configuration and switch settings, it may be necessary to re-assign the IP address after the NIM reboots. 4. Kernel Upgrade If the Kernel version on the web site displayed in Step 1 is 1.07.0 then this section of the upgrade is complete. If it is not, enter the following command at your DOS prompt to download the Kernel: Upgrade {IP Address} –k FBC000Ker.bin 5. After hitting <enter> a ‘Warning: Active I/O’ will appear.
