The approach to coal seams in this project is by three Shafts and one long Tunnel. The entrance of Tunnel falls outside the Block boundary. Therefore, the Rampuram Shaft Project covers, an area of 9.71 Sq. km, with total geological reserves of 111.119 Mt and Extractable Reserves of 39.70Mt. The scope of this Project is to work five coal horizons of Queen Seam, King seam and Index seam with a rated capacity of 1.575 Mt per annum. 5.0 MINE BOUNDARIES a. East: A line drawn at a distance 200 m from BH No SR-46 b. West: Fault F8-F8 c. South side: A line drawn at a distance of 200 m away from BH SR-35 d. North side: Fault F1-F1 7.0 GEOLOGY 7.1 General Information and Structure Of Rampuram Shaft Block The proposed Rampuram Shaft Project is carved out of Rampuram Geological block of Kothagudem area. Total about 77 boreholes with the cumulative meterage of 40547.05 has been considered for the assessment, out of which 64 are with in the block & 13 are out side the block. The borehole density is 7 BH/ Sq km. The coal seams in Rampuram Shaft Project trend NNW – SSE with dips towards ENE. The gradient of the seams varies from 1 in 6.5 to 1 in 18.3. The entire Rampuram Shaft Project block is virgin. 7.2. Geo-Engineering Properties Strength properties of roof and floor rocks of different coal seams were analysed. The cores were analyzed for different parameters such as Density, Compressive strength, Tensile strength, Shear strength, Young’s Modulus and Impact strength Index. The range of compressive strength varies from 79 to 351 kg/cm2. 7.3. Cavability assessment The caving Index parameters for overlying roof rocks of, Q3, King Seam (Top and Bottom sections) and Index Seam are estimated. It is inferred based on the caving Index values of the overlying strata of the workable seams that the roof stratum of Q3 and King Seam (Top) is difficult in caving. Whereas, the roof of King seam (Bottom) is “Easily cavable”. 2 The Singareni Collieries Company Ltd. 7.4. Hardness of coal The compressive strength of coal in these coal seams in Rampuram Shaft Project is around 325 kg/cm2 7.5. Structure The general trend of coal seams is in a North-North East – South- South West (NNE-SSW) with dips towards East – South East (E-SE). General gradient ranges from 1.7 to 18.5. A total of 8 normal faults have been deciphered with throws ranging from 5m to 250m. 7.6. Gassiness All the seams of Kothagudem area have been classified as Gassiness Degree-I. 7.7. Spontaneous combustion The seams of the neighboring mines viz., VK 7, PVK 5 Incline are liable to spontaneous combustion. Based on neighboring mines, the incubation period of 12 months is considered for all calculations. 7.8. Make of water The make of water in the neighboring mines viz.; VK 7, PVK 5 Incline is around 1750 Gallon per Minute and additional water flow during stowing operation is assessed around 2200 GPM. Therefore, the make of water has been assessed as 280Ltrs/sec at planning stage. 8.0 DESCRIPTION OF COAL SEAMS Out of 64 boreholes drilled with in the block, coal seams were intersected in 61 boreholes. The detailed exploration reveals the presence of No. I Seam in Kamthi Formation and three coal seams viz. Queen Seam (4 Sections); King Seam (3 Sections / Combined) and Index Seam in Barakar Formation in descending order. 8.1. I SEAM This is the top most seam and is represented by shale/ carbonaceous shale with shaly coal/coal bands. The thickness varies from 13.20m to 26.43m. Keeping in view the poor quality, the seam is not considered for assessment. 3 The Singareni Collieries Company Ltd. 8.2. QUEEN SEAM This seam is developed into 4 sections viz; Q-1, Q-2, Q-3 & Q-4 in ascending order and underlain by King seam with a parting thickness ranging from (between 35.00m.Sections Q-2 King and Seam Q-4 and have Section not Q-1) attained 8.56m to workable thickness/deteriorated in most of the boreholes & Q-1 section attained workable thickness only in 8 bore holes which are located in patches and hence these sections are not considered for extraction. The thickness of section Q-3 is ranging from 1.5 to 2.0 m in 21 bore holes only in patches. 8.3. KING SEAM This is the most persistent Seam occurring above Index Seam with a parting thickness of 3.50 m to 15.78 m. The Seam is split into three sections, in the northern and southern part of the block. In the central part of the block the three sections are merged with each other and becomes a combined seam. Towards north, the combined King seam is split into two sections. The thickness of Top, Middle and Bottom Sections of King Seam reduces gradually towards the south. Its thickness becomes unworkable and not developed beyond the block boundaries 8.4. INDEX SEAM This is the lower most coal seams occurring 10.70 m. to 30.00 m. above Barakar / Talchir formational contact. The seam attained workable thickness of above 1.50 m in 12 bore holes only, in the southern part of the block. Hence, this seam is considered suitable for extraction in the southern part of the block. 9.0 RESERVES OF WORKABLE SEAM/ SECTIONS IN THE BLOCK Q-1 section has attained workable thickness only in 8 bore holes which are located in isolated patches and hence this Section is not considered for extraction. Hence, the reserves of Q1 seams are not considered for extraction. 4 The Singareni Collieries Company Ltd. The details of reserves of workable seams/ sections are presented below. MODE OF ENTRIES It is proposed to approach the seams by three Shafts (Two as Upcast and one as Downcast) and One Long Tunnel to be used for coal evacuation and Heavy Material transport from surface. Downcast and Upcast Shaft No 1 will sunk from surface to King Seam Bottom Section intersecting Q3 Section, King seam Top & Middle section and UpcastShaft-2 will be sunk up to King seam Top section intersecting Q3 section of Queen seam to meet the ventilation requirement. 10.1 MINE VENTILATION Ventilation requirement of the Project is estimated at 260 cum/sec when all the Four Continuous Miners are in operation. Two mechanical ventilators of 3.0m dia with a motor power of 300 KW & 225KW respectively have been envisaged to meet the ventilation requirement. The operating pressure of the main mechanical ventilator will be 90 mm & 85 mm water gauge 5 The Singareni Collieries Company Ltd. respectively. A standby fan of similar capacity is also envisaged. Two Upcast shafts of 6.5m dia each and of depth 485m & 400m respectively have been envisaged. Upcast shaft -1 will be sunk up to king seam Bottom section and Upcast shaft-2 will be sunk up to King Seam Top section. 10.2 PUMPING AND DRAINAGE The capacity of main sump is designed to hold 16000 Cum. The inflow rate is estimated to be 280 LPS when the mine is in stowing operation. As the installed pumping capacity is 304 LPS (Two stand by pumps additional), which exceeds the inflow rate, the capacity of sump is considered to be adequate. As 10 pump sets have to be erected, the sump would be designed in such a way that these pumps could be erected at least at two locations for free movement. 11. PRODUCTION CAPACITY AND TECHNOLOGY Bord and Pillar Method by continuous miner in conjunction with sand stowing is considered for development of trunk roadways, development and depillaring of panels in all the seams due to irregular nature of deposition of seams and variations in thickness in all the seams in the entire property, less parting between sections of king seam and Geo-Mining Parameters at Rampuram shaft project. To achieve the targeted capacity of 1.575 Mt, it is proposed to deploy Four Continuous Miners in five working horizons of three seams i.e. Queen, King and Index seam. Out of four Continuous Miners one Continuous Miner will be of 1.5 to 3.0m cutting height and another Continuous Miners will be of 2.0 to 4.6m cutting height. 12 LIFE OF THE PROJECT The resultant phasing will have a maximum of Four Continuous Miners in operation. First Continuous Miner will be commissioned in 4th year and remaining three Continuous Miners will be commissioned in 5 th year. Four Continuous Miners will be working up to 26th year and there after 2 Continuous Miners will be working up to 31st years. Thereafter, one Continuous Miners will be working till the end of the life the Mine i.e. 35 years. *** 6
