Sophomore Grammar Marrs FUN WITH NOUNS 1. Review NOUNS starting on page 2. Take notes of the examples given for persons, places, things and ideas. (Yes, you all know what a noun is, blah blah blah, but we’re moving beyond boy, bathroom and book…you must understand fully before we can master gerund phrases, ambiguous reference and all sorts of other important stuff…) 2. Complete Exercise 1, page 3-4, numbers 1-10, writing only the nouns (not the complete sentence). 3. Review Common, Proper and Compound nouns (page 4), taking notes on examples of each. 4. Complete Exercise 2, page 5, numbers 1-20. You do not need to create all compound nouns, just be sure all are proper. IF you make a compound noun, write compound next to it. For example: play….Romeo and Juliet ocean…Pacific Ocean—compound 5. Review Concrete, Abstract and Collective Nouns (page 5), taking notes on examples. 6. Complete Review A, page 6, numbers 1-10, listing the types of nouns only. Remember, a noun will be at least two things: common OR proper and concrete OR abstract. Do not only list one classification.
