Each year ZIFF exhibits more than 80 films made from around the world. The 18th ZIFF will take place between 18th -26th July 2015 in Stone town, Zanzibar. The theme of the Festival 2015 is WAVES and VISIONS. Workshops: ZIFF is the largest meeting of film and cultural workers in East, Central and Southern Africa. We offer a number of Workshops, Forums and Exhibition featuring the world known artists, scholars, researchers and authors. Invitations may be made to participating filmmakers to attend the festival at ZIFF’s expense however the priority goes to African filmmakers. Eligibility: ZIFF is currently accepting applications from African filmmakers (including the African Diaspora) and films from the Dhow Countries’ region- India, Pakistan, South East Asia, the Arabian Peninsula, The Persian Gulf, and the Indian Ocean Islands. Films from Europe, North America and Australia may also be submitted out of competition but all documentary films are viable for competition. All films must have been produced after June 2012. ZIFF however, reserves the right to accept any film with specific interest to the festival. Films reflecting the theme of global cultural interaction, cultural encounters or sociocultural commentary will be given priority and we encourage filmmakers to submit works in any genre. We will accept submissions of works in progress. However, films must be semi-completed no later than April 1st, 2015. Submission deadline is 31st January 2015. Competition: The main competition is only for filmmakers from the Dhow countries. These include countries of the Indian Ocean Rim and Indian Ocean Islands, the Arabian Peninsula including Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan. All African countries are eligible for competition. ZIFF competition categories are: Best Feature films, Documentary, Short/Animation and East African Films. The ZIFF Board will also offer the Chairperson’s Award and Lifetime Achievement. Other competitions are limited to the specified categories of entries including: Official competition: This section is reserved for feature and short films, fictional or documentary films shot on film or DV, by African and Dhow Country directors. Documentary section: This Section is Open to all countries in all formats and genres. Films on Development (Sembene): This section is open to video films by African directors, African Diaspora and cultural partner producers. With the exception of Lifetime Achievement Award, all films are judged by independent jury panels. The Juries The official ZIFF jury for Dhow films is an international jury composed five (5) members at the most. There will also be other Juries composed of not more than 3 members No jury member must be involved in the direction, production or distribution of a competing film. A certificate of participation is issued to all winning films. The Prize List In acknowledgement of the great role that films play in contemporary society ZIFF offers 16 Prizes during the festival. Awards are a measure of value that the industry accords and offers filmmakers as acknowledgement of their creativity, innovation and status in society. ZIFF 2015 Film Entry Form ZIFF 2015 Film Entry Form The ZIFF Jury will offer the Dhow Awards in the following Categories: Feature films; Documentary; Short/Animation; East African Films The ZUKU African Film Awards for: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best African Film, People’s Choice. Each of these Awards have a monetary value. The ZIFF Board will offer The Bi Kidude Award The SIGNIS Jury will present its SIGNIS Award and East African Talent Award ($1000) to films that exemplify universal and spiritual values that enhance human dignity, justice and tolerance. SAVE THE CHILDREN will present a Children’s and Human Rights Award for the best film that expresses issues regarding children. THE VERONA JURY AWARD: Is awarded to the best African feature film in competition at ZIFF. THE SEMBENE OUSMANE DEVELOPMENT FILMS PRIZE ($5000) (offered in collaboration with GIZ-Germany) is for the Best African film on the theme of development cooperation. Submission Procedures: (Entry is Free) A signed and fully completed application with publicity materials must be submitted with a DVD. Selection results will be available, on May 30th 2015 on www.ziff.or.tz Any film at ZIFF may have up to five (5) public screenings at the most, including one press showing. Please note that ZIFF undertakes a post-festival Outreach program on the Islands of Pemba and Unguja and in Tanzania Mainland between July and December each year. The five showings include those shown within the Outreach program. However, further screenings could be organized with the Producer’s consent.
