Laboratory Technician II
Purpose
Purpose:
To preform entry level scientific research related to molecular biology. Responsible
for application of multiple different types of scientific techniques used in biological
research
Essential Functions
Function 1:
Carry out research using the following scientific equipment: ABI 3130xl Sanger
Sequencer, ABI 7300/ 7500, Zeiss LSM 510 Confocal Microscope, LSRII Flow
Cytometer, Qubit, Bioanalyzer and Nanodrop.
70 % Time
Function 2:
Manage the Light Labs consumables stores and the Promega and Life Technologies
Supply Program by stocking products, tracking purchases and coordinating access.
10 % Time
Function 3:
Train new users on specific scientific instruments, safety skills and site specific
skills. Keep an organized lab notebook.
20 % Time

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
High School graduation or equivalent. 6 months experience in laboratory work.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Biology. Required Skills: Demonstrated experience in a
Molecular Biology lab; Experience working with sensitive DNA samples that cannot
be contaminated; Experience working with RNA samples, PCR, DNA extractions, DNA
quantification; Experience using the following equipment: Agilent Bioanalyzer,
Invitrogen Qubit, Thermo Scientific Nanodrop, Applies Biosystems 3130xl, Applies
Biosystems 7300/ 7500 Real-time PCR machine, Zeiss LSM 510 Confocal Microscope,
LSRII Flow Cytometer; working knowledge of MS Word and Excel
