S-1 Welcome to the Annual Purple Battalion awards ceremony. My name is Cadet

Captain Jake Mills, and I am the Battalion S-1 of the Purple Battalion. Thank you for joining us as we recognize outstanding cadets.

At this time please stand as we recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Please be seated!

At this time, I would like to introduce our distinguished guests.

The first award is the Veterans of Foreign Wars award . This annual award recognizes exceptional achievement in the corps of cadets. This year’s award will be presented by Colonel (retied) Rondal Turner. The recipient of the award is Cadet

The A merican Legion Scholars Award is to recognize students who possess a high degree of courage, honor, leadership and patriotism. Also, this award recognizes students who excel in the classroom. The presenter of this award is Colonel (retied) Rondal

Turner and this year’s recipient is Cadet Private First Class Justin Stone.

The A merican Legion Military Award also recognizes students who possess a high degree of patriotism honor and courage. Additionally, this award recognizes cadets who possess a high degree of technical proficiency in the JROTC curriculum. The presenter for this year’s award is Colonel (retired) Rondal Turner and the recipient is Cadet

The next award is the Military Officer’s Association of America award: This award recognizes cadets who have demonstrated exceptional potential for military leadership as a member of the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. The presenter of the years

MOAA award is Colonel (retired) Rondal Turner. This year’s recipient is Cadet

Captain Jack Wilson.

The next award is the Military Order of the World Wars . This is a fraternal organization dedicated to promoting patriotic education; promoting the cultivation of

Military Sciences and other constitutional ideals. A primary focus of the organization is the JROTC program honoring our young Americans students for their hard work, and instilling a sense of patriotism in the future of America. The JROTC Award of Merit is awarded to a deserving cadet that exemplifies excellence in the military sciences, academics and leadership. This presenter for this year award is Colonel (retired) Rondal

Turner. The recipient for this year’s award is Cadet Private First Class Matthew

Daniels.

The next award is from the Daughters of the American Revolution , The DAR was founded in 1890 in Washington, D.C., and is a volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children. The presenter for this year’s award is Ms.

Helen Richardson, Daughters of the American Revolution. The recipient of this year’s award is Cadet Captain Danielle Simpson.

The next award is provided by the Reserve Officers Association of the United States a patriotic organization. This certificate recognizes outstanding potential for the student in the areas of the arts and sciences of the national defense. This award is an acknowledgement of meritorious service to the school, the corps of cadets and the common good of the nation. The presenter of this award is Principal Gary Fields and this year’s recipient is Cadet First Sergeant Morrie Popelier.

The next award is Sons of the American Revolution.

The Sons of the

American Revolution is the leading male lineage society that perpetuates the ideals of the war for independence. The society seeks to maintain and expand the meaning of patriotism, respect for our national symbols, the value of American citizenship, and the unifying force of "e pluribus unum" that was created from the people of many nations -- one nation and one people. The SAR is awarded to a cadet who excels in leadership, JROTC knowledge and mentorship of younger cadets. The presenter for this award is Principal Gary Fields and the award winner Cadet Captain Josh Bobo.

The next award is the Military Order of the Purple Heart . The Purple Heart is an American decoration. Also, it is the oldest military decoration in the world in present use and the first American award made available to the common soldier. It was initially created as the Badge of Military Merit by one of the world’s most famed and beloved heroes----- General George Washington. The presenter for this year’s award is Principal Gary Fields and the recipient for the award is Cadet

Private First Class Uriel Rodriguez

The next award is Embry-Riddle Celebrate Freedom Foundation Award. This award recognizes Excellence in all JROTC activities both in in an out of the classroom. This award is awarded to the cadet with an infectious enthusiasm for all school activities. This year’s award winner is Cadet Second Lieutenant

Karnell Marlow. The presenter for this year’s award is Principal Gary Fields.

The next awards are the Superior Cadet awards, which are Department of the

Army awards that recognize cadets for exemplary service to the school, the corps of cadets and the nation. These awards recognize the best student and cadet in each academic year group. The presenter for these awards is Principal Gary

Fields.

The senior superior cadet is Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Han Hong

The junior superior cadet is Cadet Captain Tyler Gentry

The sophomore superior cadet is Cadet Captain Jack Grise

The freshman superior cadet is Cadet Corporal Michael Spencer

The next award is the Army Recruiting Command award.

This award is given to a cadet who demonstrates qualities of dependability, good character, and respect for military discipline, and contributions to the JROTC program for the academic year. The presenter for this year award is Sergeant Brian Sampson .

The recipient for this year’s award is Cadet Captain Jack Wilson.

The next awards are also Army recruiting Command awards. The Army scholar

Athlete award is given annually to a high achieving male and female cadet. These awards are for those special cadets who are the best examples of maturity, athleticism, scholarship and military knowledge in the entire Corps of Cadets.

The presenter for the award is Sergeant Brain Sampson.

The male Army Scholar Athlete is Cadet Captain Jake Mills . The female Army

Scholar Athlete award winner is Cadet Captain Danielle Simpson.

The next award is the National Guard Recruiting award. This award also recognizes cadets who demonstrate dependability, good character, respect for the military, and positively contributes to the, school, the corps of cadets and the nation. The presenter for this year’s award is Sergeant First Class Chris

Bradley. The recipient for this year’s award is Cadet Private First Class Sadie

Freeman.

The next awards are departmental awards . These awards recognize cadet achievement in the Presidential Cadet Challenge. The cadet challenge is a five event physical assessment. The presenter of these awards is Cadet Lieutenant

Colonel Han Hong.. The top female achiever is Cadet Captain Danielle

Simpson. The top male achiever is Cadet Jack Grise.

This year we will also recognize the top marksman for Purple Battalion. This is for scoring the highest using the battalion air rifles. The marksmanship award will be Cadet Lieutenant Han Hong and the award goes to Cadet Captain Josh

Bobo.

Once again we recognize cadets for their demonstrated leadership excellence in

JROTC both in class and in competitive events. This year’s winner of Senior

Army Instructor’s award is Cadet Sergeant Morgin Emmert. The presenter is

Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Han Hong.

The winner of the Army Instructor’s award is Cadet Private First Class Edwin

Gonzalez. The presenter is Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Han Hong.
