Senior Research Officer Grade Q51 (4 positions) Job Description Responsibilities will include 70% research, 25% management, and 5% services. The successful applicant will plan, manage, solicit funding and execute research program(s) in area of plant biotechnology, animal biotechnology or food biotechnology that is of strategic importance to the growth and developmental needs of the agro-biotechnology industry. Applicant must be able to lead the research program(s) through efficient use of resources, manpower and facilities, and is also required to supervise and train scientists, research associates and technicians about research methodologies, collection of materials and samples and evaluation of research results in order to ensure the highest standards of practice and research quality. Applicants will be expected to have/produce research publications in peer-reviewed journals, generation of a number of IPs and also commercialization of findings/products. Applicant must also have the ability to work in multidisciplinary and multicultural team with diverse background. Job Requirements Applicants are preferably of Malaysian citizen or with a PR status Applicants must have earned PhD in a relevant discipline at the time of hire, plus at least 5 years Post-doctoral and/or research experience in public/private labs. The successful applicant will plan, manage, solicit funding and execute research projects in area of plant biotechnology, animal biotechnology or food biotechnology in-line with the research programs executed by ABI and co-supervise and train junior scientists, research associates and technicians about research methodologies, collection of materials and samples and evaluation of research results in order to ensure the highest standards of practice and research quality. Applicants will be expected to have/produce research publications in peer-reviewed journals, generation of a number of IPs and also commercialization of findings/products. Applicant must also have the ability to work in multidisciplinary and multicultural team with diverse background. Job Requirements Applicants are preferably of Malaysian citizen or with a PR status Applicants must have earned MSc in a relevant discipline at the time of hire. At least 5 years research experience in public/private labs. Areas of competence desired are or combinations of a) Marine biotechnology, seaweed/aquatic plants genetics, cellular and molecular biology, functional genomics, cell growth and development b) Plant disease, fungal molecular genetics, plant-fungal disease-interaction, plant breeding, system /network biology c) Fish breeding/genetics, aquaculture feed/nutrition, animal growth and development, (reproduction biology) General skill sets : Excellent writing skills, fluency in English and high level of commitment and self-motivation. Research Officer Grade Q43 (Biosafety Officer) Job Description Responsibilities will include 35% research, 30% management, and 35% services. The BioSafety Officer shall have both theoretical and practical experience. The Bio-Safety Officer is responsible for the administration of the Bio-Safety Program. Duties of the BSO 1. Function as the link between the Bio-Safety Committee and users of bio-hazardous materials and GMOs within the institutions. 2. Prepare or review in consultation with the Bio-Safety Committee a comprehensive BioSafety Manual. 3. Provide direction pertaining to: o facility and equipment design; o work practices and procedures; o waste storage and disposal management; o evaluation, issuance, ammendments and enforcement of relevant guidelines and procedures; o disciplinary action necessitated by noncompliance; and o bio-safety training. 4. Prepare in consultation with the Bio-Safety Committee, an Annual Report to the Chairman of the Biosafety Caommittee. 5. Provides expert biosafety advice and regulatory support to the Institutional Biosafety Committee, and also research collaborators; 6. Facilitates compliance with regulatory and best practice requirements as contained in laws, regulations, guidelines and standards; 7. Provides biosafety technical assistance to the Chair and Members of the Institutional Biosafety Committee; 8. Is responsible for overseeing the reporting of infections and injuries as required by state and local regulations. 9. Co-ordinate the development of plans to be used in the case of an emergency involving bio-hazardous materials and GMOs. 10. Investigate all overexposure, injuries and losses of bio-hazardous materials or GMOs and report to the appropriate authority. The successful applicant will also plan, manage, solicit funding and execute research projects and services (monitoring, regulate, enforcement, trainings) in area of biosafety and mentor junior research officers and support staffs to enhance their research competencies and relevant skill sets. Applicants will also be expected to have research publications in peer-reviewed journals.. Must be able to pass an occupational medical examination with ability to wear respiratory protective devices and other requirements relevant to exposure to BSL3 agents. Applicants must possess broad-based knowledge of laboratory procedures, biological hazards, chemical hazards and laboratory safety is necessary. Applicants must demonstrate skills in communicating safety laws, regulations and best practices through presentation of training courses, newsletters, etc. Applicants must have knowledge of Biosafety Acts and should be comfortable with completing all requirements in complying with the Biosafety Acts and related paperwork. Specialized knowledge and skills applicable to the state of the art research conducted in ABI. This includes such areas of expertise as recombinant DNA techniques, infectious agents, biological toxins. Must be skilled in reviewing laboratory research protocols.
