A Debate Speech
Motion: When teenagers do the crime, parents should be punished.
Introduction
a) Greeting
b) state the motion
c) state your stance
Good morning, adjudicators, fellow opponents and
classmates.
Today’s motion is that “When teenagers do crimes,
parents should be punished”.
It is blatantly obvious that this motion does not stand
d) summarize the reasons for the
stance
because it is totally irrelevant, useless and misleading.
First argument
a) topic sentence
There is no denying that punishing parents for their
kids’ misbehaviour is irrelevant because this decision
has focused on the wrong person.
b) reasons
c) examples
d) concluding statement
Second argument
a) topic sentence
Never should we ignore the fact that it is definitely
useless to punish parents because the decision cannot
stop teenagers from committing crimes.
b) reasons
c) examples
d) concluding statement
Refute
a) What do other people believe
(you should sound hesitant by
using may suggest)
b) explain why this argument does
not stand
Although a few radical people may suggest that
punishing parents can turn the wayward teenagers
back to the right track, no one can guarantee anything.
On the other hand, it spreads a misleading message
that teenagers do not need to take the blame for their
misbehaviours.
Conclusion
a) reiteration of your stance
Once again, I would like to reiterate that punishing
parents in fact achieve nothing, and even worse, this
suggestion only worsens the problem instead of solving
it. So today’s motion, “When teenagers do the crimes,
parents should be punished”, is utterly pointless.
Thank the audience
Thank you.
