Act of Teachers’ Instruction Quality Improvement of Far East University Amended and promulgated in the School Instruction Evaluation Meeting on June 2nd, 2008 Article 1 This act is drawn up particularly to enhance teachers’ instructional abilities and increase their instructional quality. Article 2 This act applies to all teachers, both full-time and part-time, working in Far East University. Article 3 To increase the instructional quality, all department chairpersons and coordinators of each unit of the General Education Center should hold at least one teaching demonstration every semester. The demonstration records should be submitted to Academic Affairs Office for reference at the end of each semester. Article 4 To fully understand the instructional quality, at the end of each semester, the Academic Affairs Office should have students fill out the on-line instruction evaluation sheets. The results will be utilized to understand the students’ learning and they will also be used as a reference for improving instruction and evaluating teachers (see the attachment for the instruction evaluation sheets). Article 5 To assure the instruction quality, teachers should upload their syllabus at the beginning of each semester and, for the convenience of students who require assistance, confirm their office hours by ticking the appropriate hours online. Moreover, teachers should post their handouts on line whenever possible. Teachers should help Instruction Resource Center select teaching assistants and implement remedial teaching whenever necessary. Article 6 A meeting should be held both at the beginning and at the end of a semester especially for teachers of General Educational Center to reach a consensus among those teaching the same subjects. Teachers should agree on instructional progress, teaching materials, material compiling, teaching methods, teaching content, equipment demands and facility maintenance. However, for those who teach professional subjects, the discussion of the above subjects can be done in the regular department meetings. Meeting records should be submitted to and kept by the head of General Educational Center and Department heads. Article 7 To increase the teachers’ instructional quality, the invited speakers on the keynote speech, seminars, panel discussions or practical training courses will be paid by the following standard. Faculty of Far East 800.00NT University dollars Help teaching and give instruction Half of the payment offered to the instructors Article 8 Teachers can submit improvement project proposals to the Academic Affairs Office one month before a semester starts to improve the instruction methods, order teaching aids, and production of teaching mediums. Once approved in the Teacher Evaluation Meeting, the project will be sponsored up to a maximum of $100,000.00 dollars for needed materials and part-time student assistants. Article 9 Teachers, entering a national instructional medium design/production contest with an official approval, will be sponsored by the school up to a maximum of $10,000.00 for the needed materials for each piece of work. If any prizes are given to the work in the contest, teachers will receive money as an award from the school as an encouragement (maximum 50,000.00 dollars). Article 10 This act was discussed in the Academic Affairs Meeting, and passed and promulgated in the School Teaching Evaluation Meeting. Any revisions will go through the same process.
