The purpose of this question is to provide genealogical and historical information for the future. It is not really essential that
this question be answered in full, however, it would be of great assistance to our Archivist if you could complete a family
pedigree and/or family group sheets for your family. Please give places and dates of birth, death and burial if known.
Example: Son of Charles Maclean, Solicitor London, born Edinburgh 1870, died Bournemouth 1950; son of Donald Maclean,
Merchant Edinburgh, born Tobermory 1850, died Haddington 1920; son of Charles Maclaine, fisherman Tobermory, born
Tiree 1825 ... etc.

The following are eligible as members:
a) Persons bearing by birth or marriage the surname MACLEAN in any of its various forms or spellings, or that of any
one of the recognised Septs, adherents or dependents as follows:
BEATH, BEATON, BETHUNE, BETON, BLACK, CLANACHAN, GARVIE, GILLAN,
GILLEAN, GILLIAN, GILLON, GILSEAN, LEAN, MACBEATH, MACBETH,
MACBHEATH, MACCORMICH, MACFADDEN, MACFADYEN, MACFADZEAN,
McFERGAN, MACGILVRA, MACGILVRAY, MACILDUY, MACILVORA, MACILVORAY,
MACLERGAIN, MACPHADDEN, MACRAING, MACRANKIN, MACVEAGH, MACVEY,
PATON, PATTEN, PEDEN, RANKEN, RANKIN, RANKINE, RANKING
b) Persons bearing a surname other than MACLEAN but whose maternal parent, or grandparent, or great grandparent
bore either the surname MACLEAN or one of the Sept names. The Council may admit on payment of the full
subscription, a person with a more remote Maclean or Sept ancestry as an Associate Member, who shall have no vote
in the affairs of the Association.
c)
Persons of other surnames intimately connected with the Clan may become Honorary Members at the discretion of the
Council, but shall have no vote and pay no subscriptions.
d) Male spouses of Clanswomen of the Association shall be eligible for Life Membership, but may hold no office except
as provided by the Constitution and Rules.
e)
A person of full age, not otherwise qualified for admission under the Constitution and Rules, who desires to show his
or her adherence to the Clan Maclean, may by the vote of the Council and on payment of the Life Subscription, be
admitted to membership as an Adherent or the Association; but no such application may be considered unless it has
been submitted in writing by no fewer than two Life Members who know the applicant personally, and unless the
Council when calling the meeting at which it is to be considered. Adherents of the Association my not hold office or
vote.
f)
All applications will be assessed for eligibility and ratified by the Association’s Council at the next meeting following
receipt of the application.

Membership:
Life Membership (may be paid in instalments as outlined below):

Instalments can be paid at the rate of an initial payment of $60.00 and three (3) subsequent payments of $30.00 over a 12month period.
Ordinary Membership (3 years):
The membership year ends 30th September
$40.00
