Franklin Paruzynski Djibouti Fighting Global Warming through Sustainable Development: Initiatives and resolutions in our country The country of Djibouti is concerned greatly with the Global Warming of the planet. It is said that Africa would be affected the most if Global Warming increased. We know that our country as well as the African Union can take some responsibility in sustainable development. As part of the African Union, Djibouti wants to restrain Global Warming and has a few suggestions for consideration. Within the Global Warming debate, it has been projected that in Africa alone, floods, droughts, earthquakes, landslides and other natural disasters, will becoming more abundant. At this time the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change states that Africa has already been feeling the effects of Global Warming. As I send my paper, Djibouti is in the clutches of an unbelievable drought, that drains our infrastructure and affects our children. Djibouti proposes country-to-country assistance, combined with regional and NGO help at all levels to combat this problem. Tied to this assistance would be an aggressive approach in attacking greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases lead to most of the theories about global warming. The main greenhouse gases are H20 C02 and CH4 (or methane). H20 doesn’t need to be reduced because it is easily cycles through the atmosphere and does not keep the rays of light in. CO2 and CH4 are the main negative causes of global warming and are many things specifically that can be done to reduce these greenhouse gases. The following are several solutions that if every country took part in would benefit the world greatly: plant trees, reduce carbon emission by alternate forms of energy and carbon producing machines, develop water harvesting projects to supply bottomless water supplies, reforestation, protecting existing forests, economize highway building so there is more land for plants, and vegetation . Secondly, encourage people to move out of big cities and not overpopulate areas, better educate all citizens about environmental awareness and education about agricultural improvements such as: soil organization, recycling of wastes, water conservation, and lastly come together to find and share alternate energy for transportation. All of the listed above would be benefit the world; all together it could help reduce the effects of global warming that are already, in some places, in process. Global warming is in theory reversible, but it will mean global cooperation between all countries, and taking into account human nature and the world politics some say it is unlikely that this will happen. However, the African Union and Djibouti believe it could be achieved and strive for global control. Right now, Africa produces far less carbon than other continents. And there is still more we could do but we need everyone’s help to get the global climate back on the right track.
