We are inviting all hackney carriage and private hire drivers licensed by the Council to provide their views in respect of the current policies towards licensed vehicles to us. We are particularly interested in your views about the policy currently not limiting the number of hackney carriage vehicle licences, and any policies that you consider restrain your ability to serve the public. We are also keen to hear about policies that you consider help you to provide a good service to those using you in this area. To maximise the opportunity for people to speak with us, we are holding a day of dropin sessions for you to give your views verbally. This day will be held on Tuesday 17th July 2012 between 10:30 and 17:00. In agreement with the hackney carriage trade representative, we will be undertaking discussions with hackney carriage drivers who are waiting for custom at the St Andrew’s Street and Railway Station ranks during the course of the day. Any other hackney carriage drivers wishing to meet us can make appointments to meet us at the Drummer Street rank – please email or call to make this appointment preferably no later than close of play on Friday 13th July 2012. Page 2 of 2 We will be contacting private hire operators separately to discuss their views, but any private hire driver wishing to meet us during this day should also email or call us to arrange a suitable venue to meet us. Your meeting with us can take as short or long time as you prefer, although we reserve the right to ask people to leave if their input is unduly restricting that of others who are waiting to speak with us, or if we have another booked discussion session. To help you consider further the issues involved, we have appended a short questionnaire which we would ask you to complete and either hand in on the day, or return to us with any other comments you may have by the means listed below. These driver consultations and your specific opinions are important to our survey. We need to hear from as many of you as possible in order to take into account your views and experiences of the taxi service as providers of this service to the area. This is your opportunity to express your views to an independent body. We are looking for as many responses as possible to include in our report. You can contact us by written submission at the address above (freepost), by letter or email, or by a telephone discussion (please leave a message with the office stating you are either a hackney carriage driver, or a private hire driver and giving contact details). Please note that we are not able to answer any detailed questions you may have about the survey, but wish to hear your views and opinions. These will be summarised and included in our report in a manner that should not identify any individual. If you write or call on behalf of more than one driver, please let us know how many people you are representing. We look forward to hearing from you. In order to ensure your comments are included in our report, we need to hear from you no later than 14:00 on Friday 27th July, and earlier if possible. Yours faithfully, Ian Millership Project Manager
