Fine Arts—They Aren’t Only in Our Museums and Galleries All throughout campus there are beautiful displays of art. But, did you know you may have a piece of fine art in your very own department? Look around at what you see—is there an expensive rug, a “one of a kind” painting, a sculpture, memorabilia from a sports team, a historic artifact, a special photograph? All of these items may be considered fine arts, if they are valuable and difficult to replace. As such, they need to be specially insured. Yale does carry a Fine Arts insurance policy, but in order for something to be covered in case it is damaged or disappears, the Office of Risk Management needs to know it exists. Please let the Risk Management know about all of the items owned by the University you have in your department that fit any of the definitions above. We will also need to know the approximate value of the item, and if you borrowed the item from another department, or one of our galleries, museums or libraries. The information can be forwarded to Marje Lemmon, Risk Manager, at marjorie.lemmon@yale.edu, or feel free to contact her at 432-0140.
