SIXTH FORM AT CAMPBELL COLLEGE ADVISORY NOTES Courses commencing September 2014 Entrance to the Sixth Form Year 13 Students wishing to re-enter, or join, Campbell College at Sixth Form (Year 13) will require a minimum of 6 GCSE passes at A*- C grade, including GCSE English and Mathematics, and a minimum GCSE points total of 8 points*. In general, you should have achieved at least a B grade at GCSE in the subjects you intend to study at AS/A2 Level. There is clear statistical evidence that students with a C grade at GCSE have only a small chance of attaining a pass at AS or A2-Level. Minimum entry requirements which must be met in order to take each AS/A2 subject offered at Campbell College are set out in the table overleaf. Only in exceptional circumstances, and with the endorsement of the Head of Department, will students be admitted onto courses other than having met these requirements. Entry to the Sixth Form is also subject to the applicant having a good record of attendance, punctuality and behaviour, and strong supporting references, either from Campbell College or from a previous school. Students will be expected to study 3 or 4 AS, or equivalent, subjects in Year 13 based on the following guidelines: Courses Entry Requirements 4 AS-Levels 7 A* to C grades and a minimum of 20 GCSE points*. Individual entry requirements met for each subject. 3 AS-Levels / Applied AS-Levels / BTECs 6 A*-C grades and a minimum of 8 points*. Individual entry requirements met for each subject. In certain circumstances, students who have attained 6 A*-C passes at GCSE and met the entry requirements for their chosen AS subjects, may be granted admission to Sixth Form where they do not have an A*-C grade in either GCSE English or Mathematics. Applicants in this position will be interviewed by the Headmaster, or another member of senior staff and, if accepted, will be expected to re-sit and pass the relevant GCSE in Year 13. The Headmaster may also make available boarding places for Sixth Form according to need. [*GCSE points awarded as follows: A*/A = 3, B = 2, C = 1] Year 14 It is expected that students should have a minimum of 3 passes at AS-Level, preferably at D grade or above, in order to progress to Year 14. Only those who have 4 A*/A grades at AS-Level should consider continuing to study 4 subjects at A2-Level. Students who have not passed 3 AS-Levels will be required to have an interview with the Headmaster, or another member of senior staff, in order to discuss their options.
