Visual Arts Instructor

Camp Renaissance 2011

Description:

The dates for Camp Renaissance are June 6-July 8, 2011. The Visual Arts instructor will meet with two groups of 10-15 students, Monday-Friday, from 1pm-3:45 pm for five weeks. The Visual Arts instructor will design a five-week course for the Visual Arts Team, plus three, one-week long, visual arts elective classes. The Visual Arts instructor will meet with the Visual Arts Team each day for one hour and thirty minutes. This is followed by an arts elective class for a mix of students who have chosen to learn something new and fun outside of their primary fine arts focus. The three, one-week long, arts elective classes can center on any type of art project and should be designed as an art experience for students who have had little exposure to art classes. The five-week course for the Visual Arts Team should include lessons that incorporate elements of the Camp Renaissance 2011 theme, “Cultivating Common

Ground with Scholars around the World,” but each week may focus on a different art projects.

The Visual Arts final project will be to create a mosaic for our community garden in Greenville, but the class should include up to three smaller projects leading up to this project. These may focus on different art mediums or techniques. The course proposal should outline the specific skills and knowledge students will master each week. All arts instructors are expected to evaluate student productions using a four-point rubric created by the instructors. This must be submitted to GRS by May

23 rd . The Visual Arts Instructor will not teach an art elective during the last two weeks of camp and will only work with the Visual Arts Team in order to finish the mosaic and other smaller projects for an arts showcase at the end of camp, called Celebration Night. 13 MacBooks are available for use in the class.

There is a $130 budget for Visual Arts curriculum materials if specific books or materials are needed when designing the course. These materials become part of the GRS library for future use. There is a separate art supplies budget. The students attending Camp Renaissance are currently in the sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth grade. The pay for this position is $2,000.00.
