Entrance Antiphon
The Lord is the strength of his people, a saving refuge for the one he has anointed.
Save your people, Lord, and bless your heritage, and govern them forever.
Responsorial Psalm
For you my soul is thirsting, O Lord, my God.
O God, you are my God; at dawn I seek you;
for you my soul is thirsting.
For you my flesh is pining,
like a dry, weary land without water.
I have come before you in the sanctuary,
to behold your strength and your glory.
Your loving mercy is better than life;
my lips will speak your praise.
I will bless you all my life;
in your name I will lift up my hands.
My soul shall be filled as with a banquet;
with joyful lips, my mouth shall praise you.
For you have been my strength;
in the shadow of your wings I rejoice;
My soul clings fast to you;
your right hand upholds me.
For you my soul is thirsting, O Lord, my God.
Gospel Acclamation
Alleluia, alleluia!
My sheep hear my voice, says the Lord; I know them,
and they follow me. Alleluia!
Psalm 63
Communion Antiphon
The eyes of all look to you, Lord, and you give them their food in due season.

RCIA 2014
Our next meeting takes place on Monday the 24th June in the Parish Hall at 7.00pm.
FAITH AND REASON
Why do we believe what we do?
This is the focus of a new initiative in this, The Year of Faith, to broaden our
understanding of the richness of the One True Faith being our Holy and Apostolic
Catholic Church. Faith and Reason is a series of modern and current short videos
targeted at adult Catholics who want to broaden their understanding of why we believe
the things that we do?
“Be transformed by the Renewal of your Mind” – Romans 12.2 .
We meet on Wednesdays in the Parish Hall,
beginning with a cup of tea or coffee at 7.00pm – the videos start at 7.15pm.
SUNDAYS AND HOLY DAYS OF OBLIGATION
The Catholic Church obliges all its members to attend Holy Mass on Sundays and Holy
Days of Obligation (in South Africa these are: Ascension, Assumption – 15 August and
Christmas). Failure to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation (except
when incapacitated or unable to attend) results in serious sin being incurred. You may
(or may not be) aware that nobody may receive Holy Communion whilst in a state of
grave or serious sin which has to be confessed in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
YEAR OF FAITH – FAITH FORMATION
Trilogy of talks on “Know Your Faith” concludes on
Wednesday, 26th June; 2013 in the Parish Hall of Our Lady Of Fatima.
We will be focusing on “Holy Spirit & the Church”.
Time 9.30-11.00am.
Tea will be served. ALL WELCOME!
Saint Vincent de Paul Society- Donations/Debit Orders
The Fatima SVDP is desperately in need of regular monthly income for their ongoing
projects at Ottawa, Wylie House, Missionaries of Charity & St Theresa’s Children’s
Home as their current monthly commitments amount to a minimum of approx R20000,00
per month just for these projects alone. With the increasing cost of food, even this
amount is not really sufficient anymore and if income cannot be increased then the
amount of food distributed will need to be reduced proportionately.
The regular income of the SVDP is limited to the once a month basket collection (which
averages between R6000 to R8000) plus income from sales of second hand goods at
the Golden Hours stall of about R1000,00, plus a few debit orders from Fatima
parishioners of about R4000. So this means the SVDP has a substantial shortfall every
month, which it has managed to subsidise previously by way of funds accumulated from
other past fundraising events. However these funds are nearly depleted and the SVDP
is appealing to the Parish for help and in particular to those prepared to donate via way
of monthly debit order, as this will help the SVDP to know how much they can spend on
helping the poor every month. If only 50% of the 600 families in the Parish donated just
R100 per month via debit order then the SVDP would have R30000 which would give
them the funds to increase the food currently distributed. So please give this serious
consideration as your SVDP cannot function without your HELP and thereby make the
SVDP your CHARITY of CHOICE!
If you would like to make a contribution to the SVDP any payments/debit orders can be
paid directly into their bank account below (or debit order forms can be emailed to you):

STAINED GLASS WINDOWS FOR THE LADY CHAPEL
To commemorate the Golden Jubilee of the Blessing and Opening of our church we
have commissioned 8 stained glass windows for the Lady Chapel. These windows will
be dedicated to the memory of deceased family members of Fatima parishioners and a
plaque to this effect with the names of deceased family members will be erected. If
you wish to have a family member included in this dedication and are willing to make
a contribution of R1000 towards the stained glass windows, please contact Brigitte at
the parish office 031 563 5554.

Commentary

First Reading (Zech 12:10-11; 13:1)
This oracle depicts the personal involvement of all the inhabitants of Jerusalem in ‘that day’
when Yahweh will finally defeat all Jerusalem’s enemies and restore the Davidic monarchy.
Then king and people together, imbued with the spirit of compassion and humility, which
Yahweh will give to them, will perceive in a new way the one ‘whom they have pierced’ – a
mysterious figure evoking the Servant of Yahweh portrayed in Isaiah 52:13-53:12 – and regret
their treatment of him. They will express this change of heart through their extraordinary
mourning for this person. Complementing their renewed subjective attitude, an objective
fountain of water, emanating at Yahweh’s word, will cleanse them. Jerusalem’s time of triumph
will be one of repentance, prayer for pardon and – above all – of divine forgiveness.
Second Reading (Gal 3:26-29)
Paul is explaining why the faithful Galatians are not committed to following the Torah.
Through their faith, expressed in baptism, they have been objectively incorporated into Christ,
and have subjectively assumed this event. Because they are in Christ, they all participate in
Christ’s filial relationship with God. Christ is the unique medium and norm of their whole
existence, making irrelevant all the prescriptions of the Torah, notably those which concern
distinctions of culture, gender and social status. All the baptised form one people, one
community, all having equally the unique dignity of belonging to God’s family in Christ. This
situation fulfils the promise which God made to Abraham, a promise which preceded and
supersedes the Torah. Those who belong to Christ through their faith are the true descendants
of Abraham who was the first to believe this promise.
Gospel (Lk 9:18-24)
Although the setting of Jesus’ prayer suggests that it was by God’s gift that Peter, speaking
for all the disciples, recognised Jesus as the Messiah, Jesus’ injunction to silence indicates that
the disciples’ view of his role does not correspond to his own. He confirms this insinuation by
revealing that, in order to fulfil his messianic mission, he must suffer, die and be raised from the
dead, as the Son of Man and the Servant of Yahweh.
The necessity concerned is that of God’s saving plan; Jesus will be the Christ of God not
despite his suffering but precisely because of it. Those who wish to follow him must decide
individually to imitate him in his career, foregoing their own selfish inclinations, and suffering
and dying not once-and-for-all but daily. This teaching applies to everyone. Only by leading
their lives in conformity with Jesus, will each person realise his or her human vocation.
