To select a spokesperson for Hampstead Fire Prevention Hampstead Volunteer Fire Company HVFC sponsors an annual Miss Fire Prevention Contest. The individual selected will represent HVFC at local fire department parades, public education, and other activities throughout the community acting as a spokesperson for fire prevention and fire safety activities. Must be single, never married, and have no children. Must be between sixteen (16) and twenty-four (24) years of age. In order to ensure that the representative chosen as Miss Hampstead Fire Prevention is able to perform her duties, HVFC requests that applicants who are attending college, attend a college within the state of Maryland. Exceptions may be made for those students attending college outside of the state of Maryland at the discretion of the fire prevention committee if it is felt that the college is close enough to Carroll County that her location will not interfere with her capability to act as Miss Fire Prevention. . Each contestant will be interviewed by a panel of judges in the preliminaries and the same judges will officiate the finals. Judges will not be with HVFC or the Ladies Auxiliary. Judging will include the following point assignment: highest earned points will determine the winner: a. General Appearance 0 – 15 points b. Poise and Personality 0 – 15 points c. Speaking Ability 0 – 30 points d. Fire Prevention Knowledge 0 – 40 points Preliminaries will include: a. One or two general fire prevention questions selected from a list that will be sent to the applicants. b. A three to five minute presentation by the contestant on fire prevention at private session with panel judges. c. General interview questions from the judges. d. The question “Why is fire prevention important to you?” The finals will be completed on-stage and will include: a. The question “Why do you want to be Miss Fire Prevention?” b. Two randomly selected fire prevention questions from the list provided. Applications must be returned no later than August 2, 2008. Winner of the contest must compete at the County competition to be held September 21, 2008 at Harney Volunteer Fire Department. This is not a talent or beauty contest. Judges decision is final. If the winner cannot attend a scheduled function, it is her responsibility to contact her first runner-up to fill in for her. Dress code requirements: As Miss Fire Prevention you represent the Hampstead Volunteer Fire Department and should dress appropriately when in sash and crown and be conscientious of behavior even when not because it does reflect back upon the fire company. The HVFC Miss Fire Prevention is expected to conduct herself in a manner that is represents both herself and the association in a respectable manner. Any conduct unbecoming of Miss Fire Prevention may be cause for removal of title.
