MISS FIRE PREVENTION CONTEST RULES A FIRE SAFETY CONTEST SPONSORED BY: The Fire Prevention & Education Committee of the Allegany & Garrett Counties Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association MISS ALLEGANY & GARRETT COUNTIES FIRE PREVENTION CONTEST Background: The Fire Prevention Committee of the A.G.C.V.F.R.A. is sponsoring a Miss Fire Prevention Contest as an Annual Activity. The individual selected will represent the Association at fire prevention, public education, and other activities throughout the bi-county area as well as at the Miss Fire Prevention Contest at the next MSFA Convention in June the following year. Award Rules: 1. This is not a talent or beauty contest. 2. Must be single, never married, and have no children. 3. Must be between sixteen (16) and twenty-four (24) years of age. 4. Contestants must be sponsored by an Allegany & Garrett County Fire/Rescue Department and/or Auxiliary. One contestant from each Fire/Rescue Department and/or Auxiliary. Companies are required to follow the same rules and guidelines when selecting their candidate. 5. Each Contestant will be interviewed by a panel of judges. 6. Contestants will be notified of the place, day and time upon receipt of application. 7. Judging will include the following point assignment: highest earned points will determine the winner: A. General appearance 0 – 20 points B. Speaking ability and poise 0 – 40 points C. Fire Prevention knowledge 0 – 40 points 2 8. Preliminary Judging will include: A. One or two general fire prevention questions from the list provided. B. A three or four minute presentation by the contestant on fire prevention. C. General interview questions from the judges. 9. Judges decision is final. 10. Applications must be submitted to: A.G.C.V.F.R.A. C/O Janet M. Elbin 180 Silver Mills Road Artemas, PA 17211 Deadline for receipt of applications is no later than February 20, 2016. 11. Duties of the Winner will include attendance at the A.G.C.V.F.R.A. Convention on day and times designated. Miss Fire Prevention will be riding with the newly elected officers in the Parade. The Winner will also assist with presenting of the annual James R. Lamberson Fire Prevention Award during the awards ceremony. She will be expected to attend all appropriate fire service activities when she is invited. She will be required to provide a written report by-monthly at the county association monthly meetings. 12. If the Winner cannot fulfill her duties, or is selected for the MSFA Miss Fire Prevention Award, she must give up her county title to her runner-up. It is her responsibility to contact her runner-up to fill in for her should she be unable to attend a function, as well as notifying the A.G.C.V.F.R.A. Fire Prevention Committee. 3 13. Dress code requirements: When Miss Fire Prevention is representing Allegany & Garrett Counties, she must wear her crown and sash. At special or formal occasions such as parades, dances, and dinners, she should wear the gown she was crowned in or a similar one. At less formal events such as school or club talks, a modest dress or shirt and blouse is appropriate attire. If an activity such as Stop, Drop and Roll is required in a presentation, slacks are appropriate. No T-shirts, shorts, jeans or tennis shoes are to be worn when representing oneself as Miss Fire Prevention. Dress sandals are allowed. 14. During the Miss Fire Prevention Contest, which consists of a daytime interview, a suit or dress will be acceptable; for the evening competition, then a gown will be required. 15. A Contract/Agreement will be a stipulation upon selection as Miss Fire Prevention. Any violation of the above will result in removal of title by the Fire Prevention Committee. 08/01/2007 4
