Dental Services
Dental Exam
Your pet will receive a thorough dental exam during his/her annual wellness
exam by our veterinarian. Our vet will complete your pet’s dental report card.
This report card will inform you about your pet’s dental health and will present
treatment recommendations. If it is found that your pet is showing signs of
periodontal disease, further treatment and medication may be recommended.
Dental Cleaning / Handscaling
Our trained and experienced technicians, under the supervision of our
veterinarian, perform dental handscales. A dental handscale is similar to the
type of dental cleaning you receive at your dentist’s office. The technician will
use instruments similar to your dentist’s to remove built-up tartar and plaque
accumulated on your pet’s teeth. To provide the least intrusive and most costeffective service for you and your pet, we always attempt to provide the cleaning
without anesthesia or sedation. However, if your pet is very nervous or it is
determined that a deeper cleaning (below the gum line) is needed, we will
administer sedation or anesthesia, and possibly take-home antibiotics.
Dental Procedure Under Anesthesia
When periodontal disease is progressed, it will be necessary to provide
ultrasonic cleaning and possible extractions under anesthesia.
For this
procedure, your pet will be admitted in the morning. Your pet will be closely
monitored while under anesthesia and during post-operative recovery by our
veterinary technicians. Take-home medications and instructions will be provided
at discharge by our front-desk staff.
Home Dental Program
Periodontal disease can be averted or reversed by simple home care. We
provide educational materials and products to assist you in caring for your pet’s
teeth.
Our staff is available to address your concerns and answer your
questions.
Dental Workshops
We offer free dental workshops throughout the year to educate you on
periodontal disease and preventive measures. We provide a demonstration on
brushing your pet’s teeth.
