Call for Proposals June 3 - 4, 2016 Cambridge Branch of Chesapeake College 416-418 Race Street, Cambridge Maryland Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Conference “Freedom, Family, Faith and Community Unsung Heroes of the Underground Railroad” The purpose of this conference is to focus on the research about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad as represented by the rich, cross cultural, multi-racial, multistate stories rooted in intricate relationships based on family, freedom, community, and faith. This conference seeks to provide a forum for historians, students, educators, genealogists, researchers, community members, and artists to share and compare research, historical methods, interpretation, curriculum ideas, and creative artistic expressions with a growing community of enthusiasts. We are seeking proposals focusing on Harriet Tubman and Underground Railroad histories related to people, places and events of the Eastern Shore of Maryland including the many pathways throughout Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, New England and Canada. We encourage broadly conceived, or narrowly focused presentations that inform, educate, challenge, and engage a broad audience. We also encourage presentations that focus on genealogy and family history research. Workshop sessions, panels, cultural/artistic activities, and media presentations shall be one hour in length. All programming is expected to encourage and facilitate audience interaction. Individual proposed programs will be considered at the Conference Committee’s discretion, and grouped together, as appropriate. Proposals should be no more than two double-spaced pages and include the following information: title of presentation, type of presentation, Lead Presenter and CoPresenter information, and presentation details Refer to the Submission Requirements accompanying this Call for Proposals. Type of Presentation Identify presentation as workshop, panel discussion, individual paper/student team, cultural or artistic program/performance. Lead Presenter and Co-Presenter Information As Lead Presenter, provide information to contact you about your submittal, including phone number, address, Email address, home phone, cell phone, work phone. All contact information must be provided to be considered. Co-Presenters, provide contact and biographical information for all participating presenters. Name Organization or Affiliation Email Address Phone Numbers (home, cell and work) Mailing Address Biographical Information (used for the website and program guide) Presenter Photographs (used for the website and program guide) Presentation Details Content - Include description of topic/theme of panel, workshop, program, or performance, as well as brief description of each paper. Include a brief comment on what audience participants may learn from this workshop or cultural/artistic presentation. Descriptions will be used for the website and program guide. Intended Audience – Describe the intended audience (scholarly, general public, children, etc.) Technology requirements - Must specify technology needs - ie., Power Point, computer projection, internet access, and other audio visual needs. Conference Registration The Lead Presenters and Co-Presenters are provided a half-price discount on the registration fee for the two-day conference. Presenters are encouraged to fully participate in the entire conference and attend workshops and events as much as their schedules allow.
