LESSON PLAN Your Name Jenny Bae Supervising Mrs. Betty Cantor Teacher Grade/School Kindergarten Bowman Elementary School Letter Lesson title Content area English Identification (beginner level) 20 minutes Time of Duration of 1 weeks activities Lesson/Unit 1. Content Area: This lesson will cover the beginner level English, specifically focusing on kindergarteners who do not know how to read or write English. Some of the basic areas will include: - Review of Alphabets (upper & lower case letters, chronological order of letters) - Consonants & Vowels - Letter Identification 2. Topic: The main topic of this lesson is to focus on identifying different letters in a single word. After reviewing the alphabets, students will learn to recognize the letters in different words, which will eventually help them to understand the formation of words and usage of letters in written context. 3. Goals: The essential goal of this lesson is to help students to master the alphabet letters and to understand its basic usage in different word formations. This will guide child’s understanding of making appropriate connections between the individual letters and words (concept of how the letter is used to create a new word). With constant practice in working with the alphabets, students will become more familiar with the use of written words and learn to identify correct letters in a word. 4. Objectives: This English lesson for kindergarteners is to help children become more familiar with our language by first mastering the alphabets, then applying the use of letters to create written words. My students will be able to recognize the alphabets in a chronological order My students will be familiar with both upper and lower case of the alphabet letters My students will be able to understand the concept of making a word using different letters (new idea: combination of letters create a single word) My students will be able to glace at a given word, recognize different letters in that word, and write it down on a piece of paper My students will be able to identify consonants and vowels in the alphabet My students will familiarize themselves with the written language by practice writing words more often 5. Technology, materials and aids: Since the kindergarteners do not have access to the computer lab, the lesson will be conducted in the classroom. Materials needed for the lesson includes: - 1 laptop - 1 computer projector - 1 white projection screen - 1 USB cable (to connect laptop to the projector) - Sound system (speaker) - Alphabet activity worksheets (20 each) - Internet connection; if access to wireless internet connection is limited, networking cable will be needed - Laser pointer - Color pencils/markers (for 20 students) 6. Procedures/methods: a. Overview: It will be a short lesson (maximum 20 minutes) because children could concentrate only for a short period of time. The website will be used as a general tool to help enhance students’ ability to recognize the alphabet letters more quickly. Multicolored visualizations will be used to capture students’ attention when reviewing the alphabets and introducing the new words as a means to practice identifying different letters. b. Introduction: I will begin the lesson by telling students the purpose of this website- to make sure children fully grasp the alphabets letters and to introduce them to the concept of how the letters are used to create different words in English. Students will get a chance to look through the contents of the website together. c.
