Antichrists?! Introduction: When you think of the word ‘antichrist’ what sort of images and thoughts does it conjure up? Context: Read 1 John 2:18-29 What does John mean in verse 18 when he writes that “this is the last hour”? How are we to interpret the verse? How does John know that we are in the last hour? Observation: From the passage, list below three characteristics of: (i) the antichrist; and (ii) the believer. Antichrist Believer Have a look at the characteristics listed in the table above. Why do you think John is making such a point about being wary of the antichrists? From the passage, how are believers to respond in light of being surrounded by anitichrists and living in the last days? Main idea Summarise into a sentence, what you think the main idea of the passage is. Application How are you resisting the antichrist in your walk with God? What are some practical things we can do to “continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming”? John writes in verse 22: “A man who denies that Jesus is the Christ… is the antichrist.” Are you denying that Jesus is Christ and Lord of your life? What are some of the areas that you struggle to acknowledge Jesus in? How are you living your life now that we in the last hours? Is there a sense of urgency in how you relate to the antichrists’ around you in the world? What are some ways we can actively change the way we share with them our acknowledgement of Jesus?
