BULKY HOUSEHOLD WASTE COLLECTION SERVICE
This service is for the collection of bulky items from domestic premises that are too
large to go into your bin. The Council makes a reasonable charge for the service and
these are shown later in this information leaflet.
REDUCE - REUSE - RECYCLE
However, before requesting this service please think how you may be able to reduce,
or reuse the amount of waste being disposed of to landfill each year by considering
whether the item(s) you are wanting to dispose of may be of use to anyone else by:





Passing on to friends, neighbours or relatives
Re-selling through newspapers and free ads
Donating to charities e.g. St Vincent de Paul Society (tel 01246 472243)
Part exchange, or Retail Take Back (i.e. when buying new ask if the retailer
will take back your old item)
Car boot, or Desk Top Sale
Working together we can reduce waste.
HOUSEHOLD WASTE RECYCLING CENTRE - STONEGRAVELS
Alternatively if this is not possible you can take your items to the Household Waste
Recycling Centre at Stonegravels which is provided by Derbyshire County Council.
Staff will advise you on what can be recycled and if necessary help you to sort your
waste into the most appropriate containers for recycling or disposal.
The site accepts Household Waste from domestic premises only i.e. not commercial/
trade wastes. This includes items such as furniture, electrical appliances and green
garden waste, but excludes building waste from renovation and demolition. However
up to 2 bags (50kg maximum) of bricks, soil or rubble from minor improvement works
will be accepted.
Opening Times

YOUR ENVIRONMENT
The Council is committed to developing and promoting the Borough as an attractive
place in which to live, work, visit and invest. These are the ways that you can help.

If you choose to employ someone other than the Council to remove your waste
ask them to confirm that they are a licensed Waste Carrier otherwise you could
be fined.

Beware of people who offer to remove your waste at a price that is ‘too good to be
true’. When they get caught, you both get prosecuted.

Avoid permanently storing bulky items outside your property as it detracts from
the appearance of your neighbourhood.

If you are an occupier of a Council property a separate leaflet is available from
Housing Services containing advice on where you should present waste for
collection.
Help protect our precious environment for our children, our neighbours and
future generations.
