Tufts Recycling Essentials Waste Stations (in high-traffic areas) should have a wall sign and 3 bins, with a label on each side: Trash Paper Note: all recycling bins should have lids. Glass, Metal, & Plastic > Workstations should have a small blue paper bin Kitchenettes should have at least one trash can and one Glass/Metal/Plastic bin. Printing areas should have at least one paper bin. High-waste areas may have unique recycling needs. Consult with users of the space and the Tufts Recycling Coordinator to see what bins would be most appropriate. Recycling Worksheet 1. Please spend some time in the next two weeks assessing the recycling system in your building (or section of your building if you’re in a very large building). Eco-ambassadors from the same building should divide up their building to cover as much ground as possible. Look for and record the following things on your worksheet: Replacement costs: Locations that are missing bins or signs Slim Jim: $25 o Note: some buildings are not allowed to have signs, these include: Lid: $17 Trash cans not paired with recycling bins Sticker: $1.50 Bins that need labels, lids, or ties to connect the lids Areas with trash or recycling contamination Apprehending the bin thief: priceless 2. Use the attached spreadsheet to interview staff from around your office/building to assess their knowledge of recycling practices and services. Find out if they know how to dispose of the following items: paper electronics (computers, etc) cardboard batteries all numbered plastics cell phones glass fluorescent light bulbs (e.g. CFLs) metal 3.
