FREEDOM HIGH SCHOOL DRASTIC MEASURES CONTRACT
2013 -14
The FHS Drastic Measures is an auditioned mixed pop vocal group of soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. Music will be
studied and rehearsed from a variety of pop and contemporary musical styles. Students will participate in activities
that include sight singing, basic vocal technique, reading music notation, singing individual parts, and expression.
Drastic Measures will also contribute to the musical life of the community through concert and community
performances.
As a member of the FHS Drastic Measures you must make every effort to maintain a commitment to the group.
Participation in on and off campus performances is expected. This is a performance group, and is open to students
that understand and wish to maintain the standards of a high quality performance ensemble. Please review the entire
contract, with special attention to the standards and expectations indicated below. Once you have reviewed the
standards and contract please sign and return the detachable portion with the appropriate signatures.
As a member of the FHS Drastic Measures I understand that being in Drastic Measures is a privilege and I agree to
abide by the following standards of performance:
1. All Drastic Measures members will exhibit a positive attitude and be invested in what we are working on. Singing
is a physical activity and involves one’s entire body and mind.
2. All Drastic Measures members will represent our school with dignity when performing both on and off campus.
3. All Drastic Measures members will attend rehearsals regularly and will communicate with the director(s) ahead of
time regarding any potential missed rehearsals or performances.
 If a rehearsal or performance is missed and was not able to be communicated with the director(s) ahead of
time a note is to be given to the director(s) explaining the absence prior to the next scheduled rehearsal.

Drastic Measures members are expected to arrive at rehearsal on time and remain in attendance through the
entire rehearsal. Should there be a conflict with full attendance Drastic Measures members should follow the
same procedures of communication as indicated above: communicate with director(s) ahead of time; if that
is impossible provide an excusal note.

Learning parts is key to our success so attendance is necessary: 3 or more unexcused absences will result in
dismissal from the group
o An excused absence is defined as: an absence that has been communicated to the director(s) ahead
of time and deemed an appropriate reason to miss rehearsal; an absence that was communicated to
the director(s) by submission of an absent note or e-mail within 24 hours of a missed rehearsal and
deemed an appropriate excuse; an absence from school; a health or family emergency
o An unexcused absence is defined as: an absence that was not communicated to the director(s)
ahead of time and/or was not communicated through an absent note; an absence excuse that was
not deemed an appropriate reason to miss rehearsal
Note: Notes or e-mails can be written by students, they do not have to come from a parent/guardian. All notes
should include: first and last name, date of rehearsal or portion of rehearsal missed, and a clear explanation of why
the member was not in attendance. Director(s) will excuse the absence based on the legitimacy of the excuse.
4. All Drastic Measures members will follow all dress code requirements for each performance or field trip.
5. All Drastic Measures members will work hard to improve themselves, and their singing.
Above all Drastic Measures members should: have fun, remain focused, follow directions, and do their best during
all rehearsals, field trips, and performances.
Breech of contract:
♫ If a Drastic Measures member does not abide by these standards, their spot in Drastic Measures can be filled by
another student. First choice will be given to those students who auditioned and were not selected or students that
already participate in the FHS Choir.
(Please sign, detach, and return the below portion of the contract to Mrs. Volpato by August 30th)
