COACHES’ EXPECTATIONS
VOLLEYBALL
It is the intent of the Wausau East Athletic Department to provide each student athlete the privilege of participating
in the highest quality program possible. In order to achieve this goal, we need the cooperation and support of all
parents and each athlete. This supplement to the athletic code is an attempt on the part of the coaching staff to
express our expectations.
1.
EACH PARTICIPANT IS REQUIRED TO ATTEND ALL SCHEDULED PRACTICES, MATCHES, AND
TOURNAMENTS.
A.
Athletes must attend entire practice sessions and contests unless they receive prior authorization
from the coaching staff to arrive late or leave early.
B.
At the Varsity level, each of the two Wisconsin Valley Conference Tournaments equals one fourth
of the entire regular season. Members of the Varsity squad are expected to attend both of these
events in their entirety.
C.
Athletes, when not participating themselves, are expected to attend the matches of other teams in
our Volleyball program when they play at the same site on the same day. (Example: JV team
should stay and watch the Varsity play, Varsity should come and watch the Freshmen team, etc.)
2.
Student athletes are expected to attend school the day following contests. (This includes being there on
time.)
3.
Student athletes are expected to follow curfews set the night before matches or tournaments (this pertains
most often to Saturday tournaments).
4.
Student athletes are expected to travel to and from out of town matches or events on the team bus or in
team vehicles unless they have provided in advance, written permission to use alternate transportation,
from their parents or guardians to the coaching staff.
5.
Student athletes shall avoid any behavior, including social networks that could be considered a source of
embarrassment to themselves, their parents, the school, the community, or their coaches.
6.
Student athletes shall refrain from violating the Wisconsin Criminal Code.
7.
Uniforms and equipment are loaned to the student athlete who is financially responsible for their return in
good repair.
8.
If a student athlete violates the athletic code or these expectations we expect that athlete and/or the
parents to report the incident to a member of our coaching staff within 72 hours.
9.
All players must wear knee pads during practice and contests. Players will not be allowed to practice or
play without them. No exceptions.
10.
Freshmen and Junior Varsity players are encouraged to stay and watch all home varsity matches.
Observing is learning.

11.
Participation in athletics does not exempt student athletes from physical education classes or
requirements. Student athletes are required to attend and participate in all their required physical
education classes. Unexcused absence or non-participation in physical education class will result in
removal from practice or games that same day.
12.
Classes and schoolwork must be the student athlete’s first priority. Not participating in daily classes is
unacceptable. All homework, projects, and tests are expected to be completed in a timely manner.
13.
JV players are encouraged to attend one WVC meet.
14.
Varsity players must watch JV games.
15.
Everyone is expected to pick up after themselves.
** Nonconformance to the above rules will result in some form of disciplinary action. Such disciplinary action may
include being benched for one or more contests, suspension from the team, the withholding of a certificate, letter,
or other award, or the assessment of a financial fee in the case of rule #7.
Remember, participating in high school athletics is a privilege given by our Board of Education, not a right. With
that in mind the coaching staff wants to help our student athletes to obtain the maximum value possible from her
participation in this most worthwhile activity.
It is not the purpose of this supplement to threaten our student athletes, but state simple facts that they and their
parents should be aware of. If the athlete, parents, and coaches work together the entire athletic program at
Wausau East should continue to thrive and become even stronger, Thank you for your support.
