Jazz guitarist Jake Langley has emerged as
one his generation’s great young talents on
the instrument. The Austin based musician
held the guitar chair with the illustrious Joey
Defrancesco Trio for five years, performing
world wide. Jake is now focused on leading
his projects including his Western Swing
Allstar band the Bordertown Bootleggers
(CD 2010). His organ trio CD recorded in
2009 “Here and Now” featured New York
heavyweights Sam Yahel (Organ) and Ian Froman (Drums) and was the first on
Langley’s label Tone Poet Music earning Langley a Juno nomination. Jakes fourth CD
with his trio “Movin’ and Groovin, was nominated for a Juno in 2008 and Jake was
featured on Joey Defrancesco’s CDs “Organic Vibes” and “Authorized Bootlegs”
(Concord). His trio stays true to “Soul Jazz” roots while still exploring modern musical
territory.
Jake has also performed and recorded with Jazz icons Bobby Hutcherson, George
Coleman, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Jimmy McGriff, James Moody, Fathead Newman, Houston
Person, Fred Wesley, Steve Gadd. He has appeared on PBS Legends of Jazz with Joey
Defrancesco and Dr. Lonnie Smith. He is as comfortable in the areas of pop, R&B, Soul
and Country recording and performing with artists like David
Clayton Thomas, Willie Nelson, Soul legend Bobby Blue
Bland, Carol Welsman, Kat Edmundston and many others.
Along with his Juno nomination for “Here and Now”, won the
National Jazz Award in 2004, 2005 and 2006 for best guitarist
and electric band. His music is heard on Radio worldwide and
is featured on television and in films. He is also a composer
for film, Tv and other media and has produced records for
artists of all genres. His latest project is Pinetop Perkins’ last
recording to be released in 2011.
