Tim Kliphuis Biography Dutch violinist Tim Kliphuis is a legend in the gypsy world through his work with the top guitarists. Classically trained, he honed his improvisation skills on tour with the Rosenberg Trio, Richard Galliano and many others, and is widely regarded as the heir to Stéphane Grappelli’s crown. Tim takes the gypsy jazz style several masterful leaps forward by mixing it with classical and folk music, most notably with his Trio featuring Scotsmen Nigel Clark (guitar) and Roy Percy (bass). This fresh and popular approach has taken him on a busy touring schedule including America, Japan, South Africa, the UK, Russia and Europe. He has shared the stage with legends Frankie Gavin and Les Paul and has been lauded for his musical genius by Nigel Kennedy. In 2012, Tim worked with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra for the first time, showcasing his music in a symphonic setting to a sold-out Paradiso Amsterdam. His music has been featured on the BBC, Classic FM, Deutsche Rundfunk, American Public Radio and Dutch national television. An in-demand educator, Kliphuis is the author of best-selling books Stéphane Grappelli Gypsy Jazz Violin and Grappelli Licks, the much-praised ‘Hot Jazz Violin’ DVDs and Jazz Etudes on video. His masterclasses and workshops have been featured at festivals, conservatoires, orchestras and summer courses throughout the world. Tim holds the Jazz violin chair at Tilburg Conservatoire and hosts an annual sellout Gypsy Jazz violin camp back home in Holland every August. He is also a contributer to string magazine The Strad. “Winningly playful and technically brilliant” - The Scotsman “The most breathtaking instrumental show you’ll hear this year” - Washington Post “The legitimate heir to Grappelli’s crown” - Acoustic Magazine please include the following links to website publicity: www.timkliphuis.com www.facebook.com/timkliphuismusic
