PREAMBLE The Southern Adelaide Health Service (Southern Health) was established in 2004. It brought together Flinders Medical Centre, Noarlunga Health Services and Drug and Alcohol Services Council. It includes Population & Primary Health Care, Southern Mental Health and Southern Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services, and works closely with other health providers in the southern area. Repatriation General Hospital, a public teaching hospital, formally joined Southern Health in July 2008, further consolidating the working relationship formed over the past four years. With an annual budget in excess of $500M, Southern Health provides care for around 330,000 people living in the southern metropolitan area of Adelaide as well as providing a number of statewide services, and services to those in the regional areas. More than 7,000 skilled staff provide high quality patient care, education, research and health promoting services. 2. SUMMARY OF THE BROAD PURPOSE OF THE POSITION and its responsibilities/duties The position is responsible for the provision of standard medical imaging services, under guidance of more experienced professional officers, using specialised equipment to perform diagnostic medical imaging examinations for clients/patients across a range of specialities of medicine and contributes to clinical outcomes by providing standard services that form the basis of patient diagnosis and subsequent treatment and management by radiologists, referring clinicians and surgeons. JPS – Radiology Receptionist – ASO2 (Updated August 2009) Page 1 of 5 The incumbent will, under reducing professional direction and through additional training/experience, perform more complex medical imaging diagnostic services using specialised equipment requiring the selection and application of standardised techniques and methodologies. The incumbent will provide assistance to less experienced radiographers, medical radiation students on clinical placement and work experience students. The Radiographer will contribute to approved research programs and the departmental quality control programs. 3. REPORTING/WORKING RELATIONSHIPS (to whom the person reports, staff for whom the person is responsible, and other significant connections and working relationships within the organisation) Reports to Head Radiographer General and Angiography Takes direction from Senior Professional Supervisor in modality to which they are attached Works collaboratively with Radiologists, Nursing Staff, Medical Imaging Professional Officers and Administrative Staff. 4. SPECIAL CONDITIONS (such as non-metropolitan location, travel requirements, frequent overtime, etc) Job and Person Specifications are reviewed regularly as part of the ongoing Performance Development process. May be required to work within other locations of the Southern Adelaide Health Service. Some out of hours work may be required. Required to wear the Repat Radiology Corporate Uniform. Undertaking well established and straightforward imaging procedures and adhering to departmental imaging protocols and legislative requirements. Assisting with performing more complex procedures under guidance from more experienced radiographers. Performing any post processing to produce high quality images and ensure distribution as required. Being aware of the client’s situation and by observing and identifying changes in that condition, taking appropriate action to provide the support necessary. Maintaining the required professional standards for own work and ensuring appropriate remedial action is taken to achieve those standards. Ensuring that all relevant patient and examination data is completed accurately and entered into the Radiology Management System in accordance with departmental policy. Ensuring urgent findings are communicated and directing the client accordingly Liaising with other professional officers, ward and consulting clinic staff on procedural schedules and relevant procedural information. Assisting other radiographers, where appropriate. Contribute to own professional development and maintain standards by being actively involved in Medical Imaging training programs and staff professional development programs. Contribute to the professional development activities in the department by: Providing support to other radiographers. Providing professional support to work experience students and medical radiation students on clinical placement and providing feedback to the Clinical Supervisor about progress and development of the students’ skills Contribute to continuous quality improvement programs and activities that are linked to the organisations strategic and corporate directions and targets as follows: Achieving key performance indicators for all imaging activities in accordance with the quality evaluation program. ESSENTIAL MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (those characteristics considered absolutely necessary) Educational/Vocational Qualifications A statement of Accreditation in Diagnostic Radiography from the Australian Institute of Radiography, or its recognised equivalent. Personal Abilities/Aptitudes/Skills Ability to competently perform all general radiographic examinations and an interest in specialised procedures. Ability to co-operate with other staff, and perform within a team situation, to achieve departmental objectives. Potential for further career development, and the ability to perform the duties of other Radiographer Level 1 positions within the section. Experience Relevant broad based recent experience in all general radiographic examinations. Experience in or potential ability to instruct Student Radiographers. Understanding and knowledge of the needs of consumers of an imaging department. 2.
