Sea Lab, Dauphin Island, AL. Assistance with lab and field work on current projects:
- Marine Fisheries Initiative Program (MARFIN).
- Addressing challenges to oyster reef restoration in Mobile Bay.
- Restoring estuarine landscapes in Alabama coastal waters through creation of oyster
reefs.
- Near-shore longline survey to investigate the abundance and distribution of coastal
sharks in Alabama and Mississippi waters.
- Benthic Impacts of Elasmobranch Mesopredators.
- Onshore-offshore connectivity of reef fishes and contribution of seagrass meadows
to fishery production (Gag Grouper, Lane Snapper, and Grey Snapper).
Summer 2006:
REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) Dauphin Island Sea Lab, Dauphin
Island, AL (Funded by National Science Foundation).
- Project Mentor: Dr. Sean Powers.
- Project Title: Multiple predator effects within oyster reefs: foraging behavior of
oyster drills and stone crabs on a common resource.
- Description: Conducted independent research with guidance from mentor.
Requirements for the program included submission of a scientific paper to the
National Science Foundation (NSF) and a fifteen minute scientific meeting style
presentation.
Summer 2005:
Summer Intern, North Carolina State University, CMAST (The Center for Marine
Sciences and Technology) in Morehead City, NC.

- Job Description: Assist with lab and field work on projects including:
- The contributions from and consequence of meteorological and climatic forcing on
the recruitment dynamics of estuary-dependent fishes: Ageing juvenile red drum
otoliths.
-
Effects of anthropogenic nutrient loading and associated hypoxia on fish
communities of near-shore continental shelves (Gulf of Mexico) and coastal
estuaries (Neuse River, NC): assisted with field observations including
trawl/hydrographic surveys and telemetry fish tracking.

a common resource” (Oral Presentation) Benthic Ecology Meetings, Atlanta, GA. (leading
presenter).
2007
Fodrie, FJ, MD Kenworthy and SP Powers (submitted to Ecology). Facilitation generates
enhanced risk for a shared prey in an oyster-reef community despite intraguild predation.
