POSITION SUMMARY: The RRT is responsible for providing basic and advanced respiratory services to infant, pediatric, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients. The RRT performs routine respiratory clinical care including medication administration, arterial puncture, breathing exercises and retraining, initiation and monitoring of oxygen therapy, impedance apnea monitors and pulse oximeters. In addition, the RRT performs critical care duties including the initiation of, management, and discontinuation of mechanical ventilation, endotracheal intubation, airway care and attendance at announced cardiopulmonary and trauma resuscitations dependent upon the RRT level of professional development attained. May perform routine and emergency care for age categories infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. II. QUALIFICATIONS: A. Education 1. Graduate of a JRCRTE approved Respiratory Care Program with a minimum of an Associate’s degree with a Bachelor’s degree desired. B. Experience 1. RRT I includes 0-2 Years of Respiratory Care experience in an acute care facility 2. RRT II includes at least 2 years Respiratory Care experience in an acute care facility 3. RRT III includes greater than 4 years Respiratory Care experience in an acute care facility and includes at least 1 year at Floyd. C. Licensure/Certification 1. Registered (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) 2. Licensure by the State of Georgia as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) 3. BCLS, ACLS, PALS (ACLS and PALS certification prior to moving to next level and within 1 year of employment) D. Interpersonal requirements 1. Possesses effective verbal and written communication skills, demonstrates a sincere commitment to customer service. 2. Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, and physicians regarding procedures. 3. Must be able to handle a multitude of tasks in a fast-paced environment. 4. Must be able to handle emergency situations in a calm, professional manner. 5. Must be self-motivated and use available work time wisely.
