The role of public space – access to cultural heritage and public services. Management of cultural heritage sites and their economic impact Wolfgang Kippes, Castle of Schönbrunn (Austria) Heritage counts – some arguments why cultural heritage when linked to tourism is the fastest growing and most important area of economy, but hardly anybody knows. The case study Schönbrunn Palace: Listed to UNESCO World Heritage List and managed by a private company the Palace of Schönbrunn is a highly profitable asset today. Basic legal and organisational principles for this success will be discussed and latest economic data provided. Research is a key factor in developing the company’s activities. After giving a short overview about the range of the various research efforts one actual research cooperation is to be presented, which we expect to change the planning and documentation process of monuments in nearby future. The aim of this project is to develop a four-dimensional databank system of every point of the area of Schönbrunn (three dimensions plus time index) for Facility Management within cultural heritage. Starting the project only recently we already gained exceptional economic profit.
