I know of many people who always make jokes about underwater basket weaving and just basket weaving in general. Because of all of the jokes and misleading “uncool” statements about basket weaving, I have chosen to write my next research paper on:
“What makes basket weaving the ultimate hobby?”
I am choosing this topic because it is something that I have never done, and have always wondered why so many people make fun of it. I am also choosing this topic because it is easily debatable because it is hard to justify what exactly the best thing is, let alone the ultimate hobby. I might just argue basket weaving as the best arts and crafts hobby to make it narrower and clearer to my audience.
My topic is multi faceted because it can be defended with information about health benefits such as lower stress levels, lower blood pressure, and also creating something useful and something that may be beautiful in your spare time. It can also be argued because it is not actually an active activity so the health benefits aren’t as great, and also there are manufacturers that are doing the same exact thing and making money off of it. It can also be argued because it is extremely time consuming and endangers the future of our forests, because the materials used to make the basket are taken from trees.
Different people may respond to my question by thinking that it might be somewhat hard to prove (if you have any suggestions of a narrower question concerning basket weaving that would be great). Some might also find it entertaining because it is something that is not very popular and not very well known in our society today. Also, some people might enjoy my topic because it will give insight into the unknown and help

people craft their creativity into something that they can enjoy and use. It will also help to justify arguments against jokes about basket weaving.
I think that I will be doing a lot of research on the history of basket weaving and why it was invented in the first place. Then, I will research health benefits of basket weaving and what it can do cognitively along with helping overall health of the basket weaver. Also, I will research the procedures and how easy or hard they are to learn to make a decent looking basket. I will also research what amount of time must go into basket weaving and also the various materials used and how much these materials will run the basket weaver per basket. And lastly, I will do research on various other similar hobbies or even dissimilar hobbies and compare the two listing pros and cons of each and of course why basket weaving is the superior.
I feel that basket weaving is relevant to me because I use baskets a lot in my everyday life. I carry laundry in baskets, keep trash in baskets, and also carry groceries in baskets. It will be interesting to learn how much I might take these baskets for granted and also how much better a weaved basket can be compared to a plastic or metal basket.
This is extremely relevant to our society today because baskets are everywhere. It also is relevant to me because I love decorating my house and sometimes I even buy cute or pretty baskets and decorate with them. By doing this topic I will learn more about how these beautiful baskets are made and also how much they cost to make compared to how much I paid for the basket. I will also learn how to make them, so I can make my own if
I ever decide that I am that ambitious and have that much spare time.
