Roaring Twenties Newspaper Assignment
DUE DATE: Friday November 12
The Task:
Your group is challenged to produce a newspaper that reflects the important events
of the 1920’s. Your newspaper should be from a Canadian perspective yet, it should
accurately report about international events. The overall objective is to create an
authentic looking product that is historically accurate. Your finished newspaper
should fill a minimum of two (2) Bristol board sheets (front and back).
Your Team:
Each of the following positions will need to be filled by your group members. Elect
or appoint people for the appropriate job. **Each group member is responsible
for writing at least two articles within the newspaper**

Editor in Chief
Manage equal participation of group members
Write a formal editorial article
Report to teacher regarding group progress and objectively write a report
regarding each member’s contributions
Assist with all other responsibilities of newspaper




Photo/Copy Editor(s)
Layout and ‘professional’ appearance of newspaper
Quality use of illustrations, computer-based images, etc.
Photocopy privileges
Assist in writing articles



Writers
Researching topics agreed upon by group
Writing articles for the various sections of the newspaper
typing articles in a compatible word processing format



***All articles need to be typed using the same font and font size, group
members should exchange email addresses in order to send work back and
forth***
Requirements:
One of the first tasks of your group is to choose an original title for your publication.
You should also design an appropriate logo/banner for your front page.
Each of the following sections needs to be included in your newspaper:









International News- stories regarding world events
National News- stories focusing on Canadian events
Local News- stories about the Maritime Region
Editorial- opinion piece regarding a significant event from the time
Biography- focus on a prominent Canadian from the period
Sports
Entertainment/Arts- movies, music, celebrities, dance, art, literature,
recreation & leisure, etc.
Fashion/Fads
Advertising- focus on products & services from the ‘20s
