Pickle Research Campus, Bldg. 196 (ROC) 10100 Burnet Road (R2200) Austin, TX 78758-4445 USA phone: 512-471-0452 fax: 512-471-8844 Research record and ongoing work Field work was completed in the early 1990s. My previous work in the Solomons is published in a 1998 Tectonophysics paper and in a 2005 special issue of Tectonophysics. In the early 2000s the focus of work shifted to Papua New Guinea (Milne Bay Province). Offshore data is crucial for understanding tsunamis and patterns of active faults. One potential project is to focus on high resolution mapping of faults and potential failure zones on slopes (this has not been done previously and could form the basis for a MS or PhD study involving a Solomon Islander). Key publications/reports/materials Here is a link to my CV: http://www.ig.utexas.edu/people/staff/paulm/Mann_Paul_CV_sep2007.pdf Further ideas and reflections Perhaps a Solomon Islander grad student could work at both UT Austin and Stavanger Univ as part of an exchange program. Development funds might be sought to support this effort (Norway, Taiwan). Amounts needed would be in the $200,000 to $300,000 US range (excluding salaries).
