MINUTES OF THE BSc COURSE COMMITTEE MEETING Venue Olympia College, Kuala Lumpur Date Sunday 13th July 2008 Time 11.00am – 12.00noon PRESENT 1. Dr. Steve Clark - NTU, Verifier 2. MATTERS ARISING Person Responsible Mr. Rama Mr. Rama welcomed everyone and requested the members to go through the previous Committee Meeting minutes. Previous Course Committee Meeting Mr. Rama informed the members that there was no down time for the last two terms in Serf Portal after changing the server to the new hosting company. Dr. Steve enquired whether the problems in Video conference still existing, for which Mr. Bharani replied, that there is still some problems with the late coming students but compared to previous terms it was reduced considerably . Dr. Eric enquired about the students participation in the Video Conference for which Mr. Bharani replied that the students participation was good for the Final examination VC when compared to the Assignment guidelines VC session. Ms. Aby proposed the minutes and seconded by Mr. Bharani. . Student Feedback Two student representative present in the meeting through online: : Mr. Tey and Ms. Kalai - OCJB Student Representative 1(OCJB) : Mr. Tey : – completed four modules Mr. Tey said that he had some portal access issues for the module Wireless Communication in January. Mr Bharani highlighted that was before changing the server to a new hosting company. Dr Steve asked about the portal access for the last 3 to 4 months and the student replied that he has no issues or problems and he is always able to access the portal and it was available any time when he Student Representative Time Line logs in. Mr. Rama asked Mr. Tey weather any other key issues regarding the term to be addressed. Mr. Tey answered saying that there are no important issues about the last two modules; the process of submitting assignments, getting material is quite satisfactory. Lecturers support, module leaders co-operation is also very good. Student Representative 2(OCJB) : Ms. Kalai : Ms.Kalai informed that the Video conference starts late after 5 to 10 minutes from the schedule and Mr Rama informed that all module leaders were requested to start the discussions after 5 to 10 mintues from the schedule to provide time for the just in time students and students logging in late to settle down to avoid repetition of the same questions. Mr. Rama also informed that after the every video conference the guidelines are posted on to the discussion forum for the students’ benefit, which will also help the students who could not attend the VC due to various reasons. Ms.kalai also said that the Co-ordination from the centre is very good. The programme is very helpful for both full time and part time students. Centres Facilitators Feedback: Mr. Thiru centre facilitator from OCJB informed that everything is fine regarding the module. But there are no more additional slides other than the text book slides For which Mr. Bharani answered that for networking modules WEC is working on improving the module contents and will be implemented as early as possible. Mr. Thiru also requested for the Facilitators Video conference to be conducted during the weekends instead of the week days. Module Leader’s Feedback MR.BHARANI – WC & NS Mr.Bharani suggested the following for the betterment of the student : 1. Centre representatives should ensure that students Mr. Bharani understand the VC steps and procedures 2. for this term some Students complained the assignment questions was difficult, but it is framed in such a way that it requires the students to improve their practical knowledge 3. During Assignment VC session, ML did not answer the repetitive questions from students and adviced the students to view the Discussion for assignment guidelines. 4. Attendance for Final Exam VC was more compared to the Assignment guidelines VC. 5. Online support was up 100% i.e. no downtime during the VC for NS module. 6. Support from WEC management was exemplary. Mr. Mahendran – MM & DMP Mr.Mahendran informed that the module material provided for this term is better that the material provided for previous terms Mr Mahen said, he has to use the old PPT as there is very less time available for him by the time the new material was provider by the publisher. He insisted that the book is Mr. Rajasekar from the same author with some updated contents, the earlier slides can be used as it is expect for few additional topics in the newer editions for which the slides were provider in the later stage. To which Dr.Steve suggested that the facilitator could also use his/her own slides. They can also give their own handouts. MR.RAJASEKAR - BDC Centre Facilitators are much supportive. The students participation was very good for the final examination VC up to 70-80% of the students attend the VC, but only 40-50% of the students attend the assignment VC. For which the centre facilitators should encourage the students to attend the VC and get benefitted. Other Issues Mr. Rama Dr. Eric suggested the centres have to encourage the students to participate more in the VC.
