Project description
Saline transgression, coastal erosion, lowering of the water bearing-layer, increase of average
temperatures of sea and fresh water, spontaneous overflows, habits changes in flora and fauna life,
progressive decrease of rare and precious habitats, water pollution. A series of different threats that
plague wet coastal and river environments, that, besides other known factors, are increased also by
the first effects of climatic changes. The managing authorities of protected wet areas gathered in the
project find more and more the need to intervene against those phenomenons in their areas sharing
best practice, studies results and intervention techniques. It is necessary to proceed immediately in
three different ways: Innovative information - based on fact studies and data – towards inhabitants
and visitors about the effect of climatic changes and natural damages verifiable on the protected areas
of the partners, in order to strengthen the need to intervene with the help of everybody, suggesting
also improving actions and behaviours, but without minimizing the problems entity. Prevention
through a coordinated action plan on different levels, to contrast the contestable phenomenons and to
attenuate the effect of the unpredictable ones. Compensation of irreparable damages or negative
inputs coming from outside, such as water pollution, through pilot actions that show feasibility and
ensure, with and exact calculation, which damages have been compensated. In this last field of action
of the project, innovative funding forms such as public-private sector and fund raising for
compensation will be tested.

Main Objectives
- Preservation of the environmental integrity of protected areas and neighbouring rural and urban
areas, with higher intensity, both through information – testing innovative communication methods –
and prevention and/or compensation plans, coordinated on different levels and tested through pilot
actions.
- Deeper awareness of inhabitants and visitors of protected and neighbouring areas, involving them in
the environmental protection of the partner areas.
Expected results
 Draft of best practice, techniques, organization procedures, methods and technologies which –
already consolidated and based on international studies – can be used as an example for effective
information actions about prevention and compensation of environmental damages, due to natural
risks and climatic changes.
 Information to the majority of the population and visitors about the environmental problems that
plague the wet areas managed by the partners.
 Draft and agreement of an action plan coordinated on different competence levels for the
prevention and/or compensation of environmental damages occurring to partner areas.
 Test of compensation pilot actions.
