PHASE 1: Individual Element Research (20 points)
A.) Individually research one element in your assigned family.
B.) Record your findings in the Atom Family Individual Element Checklist.
C.) Have your Atom Family Individual Element Checklist checked and approved by your teacher.
PHASE 2: Cooperative Atom Family Research & Project Preparation (60 points)
Using your individual research (plus some more), you may now team up with your partner(s) to create
presentations that show how the elements in your group are similar and significant to humans.
You may choose from the following types of presentations.
Atom Family Scrapbook: Develop an informational scrapbook on your assigned periodic
family. The information must be neatly written or typed; clip art and or hand drawings may be
added to enhance the presentation of the information. The scrapbook must be informational
documenting the requirements
Atom Family Power Point Presentation: Develop a PowerPoint presentation. It should be
enhanced by images and graphics found on the internet.
Atom Family Comic book: Develop cartoon characters for each element in your family and
create a short story in the form of a comic book for the element family assigned.
Atom Family Video: Record and edit a video presentation (such as a commercial or sitcom
type show) enhanced by inserted audio and visual which aid in displaying the similar properties
of elements in your group.
Atom Family “want ads” or “single ads”: Develop characters for each element in your family
and create a short bibliography for each in the form of a want ad or a singles type ad. The ads
must be informational documenting the requirements.
PHASE 3: Cooperative Product Presentation (20 points)
Present your project to the rest of the class. Be sure to emphasize the similarities between the
elements in your group as well as their significant uses.
** All projects should include essentially the same objective to compare the properties of
elements in the same family and will be graded based on their inclusion using the Atom Family
Individual Element Checklist & the Atom Family Project Rubric. **
