This unit standard covers the skills for people engaged in the
provisioning of complex and/or non-standard
telecommunications core networks across a broad range of
situations.
People credited with this unit standard are able to:
–
ensure regulatory compliance while working on core
network systems;
–
prepare for installation of complex and non-standard
telecommunications core network service systems; and
–
interpret, apply, and update core network installation
records and technical documentation in accordance with
industry practice and company requirements.

Definitions
Complex or non-standard – three or more components and/or services used together
in core networks or enterprise solution systems.
Co-ordinate – includes supervision, facilitation, and active involvement in the work to
be completed.
Core network – in this unit standard means – complex and/or non-standard
telecommunications core networks.
FOG – Fibre Optic Grid.
Industry practice – those practices which competent practitioners within the industry
recognise as current industry best practice.
telecommunications core network service – in this unit standard means – complex
and/or non-standard telecommunications core networks.
HSE – Health and Safety in Employment.
SOHO – Small Office Home Office.

Training on instruments, equipment, and software used for testing and performance
management of complex or non-standard networks are specific to a broad range of
situations and are part of supplier agreements. This training will form part of
company processes and will be ongoing to ensure currency of knowledge and
competency.

mentioned.
b Evidence against this unit standard must be in accordance with industry practice
and, where appropriate, must reflect environmental conditions.
c Evidence of six different installations is required for each outcome of this unit
standard.

Prepare for installation of complex and non-standard telecommunications core network

Evidence requirements
2.1
Establish the scope and timing of the provisioning of the equipment and service.

Agree details for provisioning with customer and/or supervisor and develop one
plan for each of project.

records.
Obtain permits and/or consents in accordance with regulatory requirements and
company procedures.

Develop safety plans and notices in accordance with company and customer

Interpret, apply, and update core network installation records and technical documentation
in accordance with industry practice and company requirements.

documentation.

underground cable plans, FOG plans, cable pair sheets, utility
service location plans.
Ensure network installation plans, records, and other technical documentation is
updated and provided to relevant stakeholders.
