Laboratory management training concentrates on developing the knowledge, skills and abilities to run a laboratory efficiently and effectively so as to enhance the working environment of laboratory managers in the country. Laboratory personnel continue to manage chemicals and the health effects emanating from these chemicals are of concern. In the interest of stakeholders, a two-days training workshop on Modern Laboratory management practice will be conducted by the Tanzania Chemical Society (TCS) in collaboration with the Chemistry Department, UDSM, in Dar es Salaam from October 3rd to 4th, 2011. TCS, founded and officially registered in October 1997, is a non-governmental organization dedicated to the welfare of all chemists in Tanzania. Its scope includes the teaching of chemistry and chemistry related issues at all levels; conducting research in different areas including human health; the environment; and provision of knowledge and skills to professionals involved in areas where chemistry is applied such as in industry, mining, etc. The Chemistry Department (CD), the most highly ranked chemistry academic institution in Tanzania, is a teaching and research department under the College of Natural and Applied Sciences, UDSM. The department has several laboratories of varying quality and has made good management its priority role in order to maintain professional standards among laboratories. Objectives of the course 1. 2. To develop capacity and enhance professional skills of participants in the management of their laboratories. To enhance knowledge of participants on leadership and other skills useful to the management of their working environments. Any person managing laboratories, chemicals and /or working in chemical quality control and in other laboratories.
