Matters Arising: Discussion about SIBA logo being used as a sign in farmers fields to promote the use of local crops in local ale. Patrick from Otter has spoken to Warminster and Tucker’s Maltings, both think it’s a good idea and have given some thought to possible locations. The signs would need to be displayed where they are actually visible by passing traffic etc. Signs would cost aprox £75. Patrick will continue to liaise with the malsters and the committee. Moved to next meeting. Nothing new to report on SW video will move to next meeting. Brewers Grains Training: If your grains enter the food chain you must have FEMAS Accreditation. Date for training course is 1st November at Palmers Brewery in Bridport please phone Stephen @ Cotleigh 01984 624086 to book a place. Price is maximum £250 depending on size of brewery. SW Brewers Book : No one has offered to go ahead with gathering info so this idea has been put on hold. Brewing Technical Support: Crop reports from Tuckers, Warminster & Charles Faram are attached Membership Applications: Reminder that all new members must attend a meeting in the first year. Following breweries are still overdue to attend : Blue Anchor and Holsworthy Ales Paul from RCH also mentioned that new members who haven't yet attended a meeting, MUST ATTEND the AGM in January or they won't be eligible to enter Tucker’s Malting’s Festival & competition IT & Communications : PR is on the agenda for SIBA Central. Steve and Guy have fed back that it should be part of the SIBA business plan. Point was raised that Cask Ale weeks had been poorly advertised. Guy said that although SIBA supports Cask Ale Week it is not involved in it’s organisation. Roz from Maritime Inn who is a SIBA Locals pub associate member raised the point that she does not know why she is in SIBA. Something like Cask Ale Week was only promoted by Camra, she asked the question ‘ What is SIBA doing for it’s pub members?’ The discussion moved on to agree that SIBA needs to become more consumer facing. Finance Report: Breakdown of Tuckers Malting financial report was distributed. Total profit for this year £4559.83 which is up from last year. Toatl in Cheque account £30624.10 and Savings account £11932.87. Adrian made the point that there needs to be aprox £22000 available before the Malting’s beer Festival goes ahead to pay for all the costs in advance. £50 has been given to the chosen charity of Simon Whitmore after his funeral and the meeting decided to give £50 to each of Annette Frampton's chosen charities and £1000 to the Jim Laker Memorial Fund - Jim was a founding member of SIBA and his fund helps disadvantaged people in the Wiviliscombe area. SIBA Central is also adding £500 to the Jim Laker Fund. Proposal made to honour Annette in some way at the Maltings Festival. Maltings Committee to decide at next meeting. Proposal made to have a contingency fund of up to £100 that the committee can spend for this type of circumstance without it first having to be carried at a meeting. Adrian to investigate The Maltings Festival making BACS payments he will report at next meeting. Political & Campaigns: ‘Save our Beer’ epetition has now reached 100,000 signatures. The next step is for us all to write to our MP’s. Guy suggested SIBA Central draft a template letter. This will be emailed to breweries for us to personalize and send to our MP’s Roz requested a customer friendly version for use on the bar in pubs. Marketing: BeerX is still a work in progress more information at next meeting. Make sure the dates are in your diaries – 13 – 15 March 2013 in Sheffield Commercial : Steve reported that the turnover for DDS was up by 5%. Container Management: Nick Stafford invites anyone with issues regarding NCRNET to contact him personally at nick.stafford@siba.co.uk Problems encountered Kegwatch does an uplift when there are orange stickes – local pubs should phone the breweries to collect. Casks are showing as being at a depot even when they have been picked up. Paul from RCH advised if anyone has a query with an invoice they should speak to Kegwatch. Cask misuse was discussed. There is a SIBA policy in the new members pack. Each case is handled individually. Guy encouraged anyone with issues regarding this to email them to Charlie at SIBA Central and cc in the committee. ECask also encouraged everyone to help stop the misuse of Ecask or the price will be affected. Tucker’s Maltings Report: Meeting for next years festival will be at 6.30pm The Ruishdon Inn nr Taunton. Next years festival is on 18/19 & 20th of April 2013. This will be the 21st anniversary so Paul welcomes some new ideas. Any Other Business: Paul from Hunter’s suggested that ‘Breweries working together’ becomes a more formal part of each meeting simple ideas such as joining forces for the larger beer festivals. Guy reported that Gloucester and East Anglia already have smaller working groups perhaps make contact and report back next meeting. Centralized purchasing was raised. Guy mentioned Co-Save but did offer caution with pitching raw materials suppliers against each other although some felt competition was healthy. Cost of Murphy’s drums has increased to £5.50 but return deposit is only £4.50 IBD are meeting to offer the chance for more brewers to become qualified with official courses. The proposal is for larger breweries to host weekend sessions that cover manageable modules of a course maybe 3-4 times a year. Point was raised over a wholesaler that had possibly not paid or returned casks, reminder to use the SIBA Forum for issues such as this. There has been a proposal to revise the SIBA regions boundaries, but the South West is unlikely to be affected. Dates and venues for Next Meetings: South West Regional meeting and AGM : Saturday 19th January 2013 Hope be in Cornwall venue to be arranged – PLEASE CAN A CORNISH MEMBER OFFER TO HOST THIS – Contact guy.sheppard@siba.co.uk ASAP New Trustee is needed.
