Titanic Belfast, birthplace of the world’s most famous ship, has teamed up with United Airlines and Cool FM/Downtown Radio and Hilton Belfast to offer entrants the opportunity to bring home friends or loved ones from the US as part of the visitor attraction’s Festival of Family and Friends - a ‘Gathering’ initiative - next month. From November 4-10, Titanic Belfast’s Festival of Family and Friends will celebrate history, culture and heritage, as well as free genealogy and family tree research with PRONI (Public Records Office of Northern Ireland) and findmypast.ie. The ‘Fly them Home in 2014’ competition is open to island of Ireland residents, who simply have to compose a 300-word message as to why their loved ones should be chosen to come home. The winners will fly into Belfast, Northern Ireland from Newark/New York, courtesy of United Airlines. A spokesperson for United Airlines said: “United Airlines is pleased to be supporting this event which brings families together. There’s even an occasion for sports fans – Rinty Monaghan, A Sailortown Hero; a talk given by boxing historian and author Barry Flynn.
