Why is conflict not just about two angry people but involves the groups we belong to as well? How do our families, schools, work environments and Christian communities keep us locked in destructive conflict or equip us for conflict transformation? Are there any tools or strategies that can help us not to run away from or deny conflict, but to embrace its transforming potential? What are the larger religious and cultural forces at work? Through instruction, self-awareness quizzes, and learning exercises, Dr Sara Savage and Dr Eolene Boyd-MacMillan invite you to consider your biological, social, emotional and cognitive reactions to conflict and to consider how they play out in diverse conflict situations. There is no blame or shame in our default reactions, but relief in recognising them and realising that we do not have to be trapped in them. Having pioneered (with Psychology and Religion Research Group colleague, Dr Jose Liht) a holistic training programme for conflict transformation, Sara and Eolene will introduce a new framework for seeing ourselves, other people and the world we live in, teaching participants how to use 'IC' as a fundamental life skill for conflict transformation. This conference will present insights from their latest book coming out in February 2010.
