T.E.A.C.H.
(Tidewater Educators Association for Christian Homeschooling, Inc.)
Statement of Purpose and List of Programs and Activities
T.E.A.C.H. exists to encourage and assist parents who feel called of God to fulfill their God-given
responsibility to “train up” their children by teaching them at home.
Our purpose is to:
-Foster fellowship among homeschoolers, both parents and students.
-Share information regarding homeschooling.
-Provide resources not easily available to individuals.
All of our programs and events are coordinated by volunteers.
T.E.A.C.H. offers sports programs for children five years of age through senior year
in high school. Programs have included boys and girls basketball, girls volleyball, boys and girls
soccer, boys baseball, girls softball and cheerleading. The purpose of the sports program is to allow
homeschooled athletes to grow in physical ability and moral character at the Varsity/Middle school
level in order to compete in team sports.
T.E.A.C.H. conducts a senior graduation and a junior/senior prom each year. These events provide
homeschooled students the opportunity to attend milestone events that they would not otherwise have
the opportunity to participate in.
T.E.A.C.H. provides educational testing of homeschooled students. This testing allows students to comply
with the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and to qualify to attend college.
T.E.A.C.H. periodically conducts various fairs and contests that allow students to compete and learn from
each other. These activities provide a forum for public achievement and enhance and enrich the
homeschooling experience.
T.E.A.C.H. maintains a website, teachhomeschool.com, to keep parents informed and to aid in their
finding resources and information.
T.E.A.C.H. provides an annual scholarship for a homeschooling widow to purchase curricula for her
children. There is also a benevolence scholarship that is presented annually to a family who needs help
with sports registration fees, graduation fees and/or testing fees.
T.E.A.C.H. provided 22 annual curriculum fairs until 2009. This event provided a clearinghouse for
homeschooling parents to observe and purchase curricula, educational games, materials, and to learn about
the latest techniques available for homeschoolers. The need for this resource has been changing in keeping
with technology. More and more families are going online for new and used materials, and there are an
increased number of co-ops and enrichment classes available which eliminates the need to individually
shop for textbooks. T.E.A.C.H. is attempting to include some of its past vendors as links on our website.
