Unit Three Culminating Activity: 1939-1959 Newspaper Assignment Culminating Activity #3: How did the years between 1939 to 1959 transform Canada? What? Your task will be to use your knowledge about Canadian involvement in World War Two and the years after to create a commemorative newspaper for the 70th anniversary of the end of the war in 2015 or the decade of the 1950s. Be sure to consider layout, writing style, historical accuracy and detail. Required Topics (Final Newspaper: 1. Front Page Article /40 marks) -pick ONE important event (ex. Battle of Britain, Dieppe Raid, D-Day, Liberation of Holland, Korean War, Suez Crisis, Formation of NATO) -please see additional handout and laminated newspapers for guidelines describing how to write an article 2. Canadian Hero Feature Article -pick an Important Canadian Person during WW2 or the 1950s. -please see additional handout and laminated newspapers for guidelines describing how to write an article. 3. Propaganda Poster/Political Cartoon -you will need to find an original and Canadian illustration, poster or comic strip which presents a political message related to WWII or the 1950s . 4. Primary Source Quotation -integrate a quotation from a primary source (2-3 lines) that illustrates some aspect of the Canadian experience in World War Two or the 1950s. -a primary source is a first-hand account such as a letter, a diary, a document or other source of information that was created during the time of study (1939-1959) -please see corresponding handout Other Required Elements 6.
