Wexford General Hospital is a 212 bedded Acute Hospital catering for the service users of County Wexford providing general medical, surgical and oncology services. During 2009 there were 39,760 emergency presentations and 56,730 patients presented to outpatients. The Radiology Department carried out 64,916 examinations in 2009 including 46,027 general GP, emergency, in and out patient referrals. In the CT Department 5,883 examinations were undertaken, compared to 4,144 in 2006, equating to a 4.2% increase since 2006. In General Ultrasound 6,913 examinations were carried out in 2009, compared to 3,969 in 2006, equating to a 74.2% increase since 2006. The Radiology Department introduced an open access walk in chest service in 2006. This service averaged over 260 patients per month in 2009. Reporting Relationship Purpose of the Post Principal Duties and Responsibilities Team Structure: Consultant Radiologist x 3, Radiography Service Manager, Clinical Specialist Radiographers, Senior Radiographers, Basic Grade Radiographers, Darkroom Technician. Post holder will report to Radiography Services Manager or deputy. To carry out radiography duties in the assigned area of work. 1. To attend the hospital at such times as maybe specified by the Health Service Executive/South 2. To participate in Radiographic Examinations in the assigned area of work 3. To maintain good professional and technical standards 4. To ensure all aspects of patient care 5. To take advice and training where required 6. To report operational difficulties to the Radiography Services Manager or Deputy in his/her absence 7. To participate in routine Q.A. procedures 8. To report to the Radiography Service Manager or deputy on any matter relating to Health & Safety and Radiation Safety within the designated work area 9. To be familiar with any relevant legislation such as the Ionising Radiation Regulations and local procedures such as fire regulations, emergency plan regulations and Infection Control procedures. 1 10. To promote good working relationships with other departments and hospital staff 11. To attend at such other health institutions administered by the Executive as the Executive may from time to time designate 12. To participate in out-of-hours on-call rota 13. It is intended to be neither definitive nor restrictive and is subject to periodic review with the employee concerned. 3 HEALTH SERVICES EXECUTIVE Terms and Conditions of Employment Radiographer Specified Purpose Tenure The appointment is Specified Purpose, wholetime and pensionable. Appointment as an employee of the Health Service Executive is governed by the Health Act 2004 and the Public Service Management (Recruitment and Appointment) Act 2004. Remuneration The Salary scale for the post is €36,186 x 10 annual increments to €47,011 plus Long Service Increment €48,054 per annum. Payment will be made by paypath system. Incremental credit may be granted in respect of previous approved service. Employees will be paid fortnightly on a Thursday and 11 days in arrears. Working Week The standard working week applying to the post is 35 hours. HSE Circular 003-2009 “Matching Working Patterns to Service Needs (Extended Working Day / Week Arrangements); Framework for Implementation of Clause 30.4 of Towards 2016” applies. Under the terms of this circular, all new entrants and staff appointed to promotional posts from Dec 16th 2008 will be required to work agreed roster / on call arrangements as advised by their line manager. Contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8am-8pm over seven days to meet the requirements for extended day services in accordance with the terms of the Framework Agreement (Implementation of Clause 30.4 of Towards 2016). Annual Leave The annual leave associated with the post is 27 days. Superannuation Membership of the HSE Employee Superannuation Scheme applies to this appointment. Existing Members who transferred to the HSE on 1st January 2005 pursuant to Section 60 of the Health Act 2004 are entitled to superannuation benefit terms under the HSE Scheme which are no less favourable to those to which they were entitled at 31st December 2004.
