SECONDARY/POST SECONDARY ARTICULATION
RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION NO. 54
A RESOLUTION of the Board of Directors of Bellevue School District No. 405, Issaquah
School District No. 411, Lake Washington School District No. 414, Mercer Island School
District No. 400, Northshore School District No. 417, Shoreline School District No. 412, and
Snoqualmie Valley School Districts No. 7 and 8 (Shoreline and Bellevue), to endorse legislation
to enhance Secondary and Post-Secondary articulation.
WHEREAS:
Legislators, school superintendents, college presidents, their boards and administrative
staff at secondary and post-secondary levels have met, discussed, and planned
transferable education and training.
WHEREAS:
There is an increased number of at-risk students, i.e. potential dropouts, teenage parents,
unemployable 16-24 year old youth and rehabilitated drug and alcohol abusers.
WHEREAS:
Educational alternatives should be maximized for student motivation as well as for
financial savings.
WHEREAS:
Reduced time is desirable for vocational and transfer students at both the VocationalTechnical Institutes and the Community Colleges.
WHEREAS:
There is an increased demand for teachers in specialty areas such as math, science,
Pacific Rim languages and emerging occupational areas.
WHEREAS:
Program duplication among and between secondary and post-secondary educational
institutions could be reduced.
WHEREAS:
Student enrollments in Bellevue, Mercer Island and Shoreline School Districts are
declining while enrollments in Issaquah, Lake Washington, Northshore, and Snoqualmie
Valley are increasing.
WHEREAS:
Future facility and faculty alternatives need to be available for school decision makers to
utilize as needed.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT WE ENDORSE A PILOT PROJECT FOR 19871988 AND EVENTUAL LEGISLATION TO ENHANCE SECONDARY AND POSTSECONDARY ARTICULATION.
