PERSONAL PROFILE

I am an independent consultant with a degree in management, post graduate studies
in integrated project management and studies in psychology. I am skilled in document
writing, and editing, in both English and Spanish, and my professional experience has
been in project and programme planning, monitoring, evaluating and reporting,
training and coaching and interpreting/translating. I have a dynamic and analytical
approach that allows me to understand and summarise diverse information and
address the needs of the project at hand. I have lived in various countries in Latin
America since early childhood and have had first hand experience with international
cooperation activities from an early age. I am an equally fluent speaker and writer in
English and Spanish, and I have a working knowledge of French. I describe myself as
being multicultural and multilingual, proactive and creative, with a broad cultural
background, excellent people skills and a team player.
WORK HISTORY
Independent Consultant

Consulting for humanitarian organisations such as Norwegian Red Cross, International
Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Inter American Parliamentary Group;
in areas such as project and programme planning and monitoring, meeting facilitation,
report writing, document edition and translation.

Among other documents, I have translated from Spanish into English an academic study
on the state of the Red Cross in the Americas, carried out by the Complutense University
of Spain. I have also translated from English into Spanish the Red Cross Malaria Toolkit, to
be used worldwide by Spanish-speaking Red Cross members.
I have also facilitated continental meetings, such as the International Federation’s Planning
Meeting for the Americas Zone in June of 2009.
I have aided as a consultant in the preparation of proposals to donors such as ECHO.

International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies – ZONE
PLANNING, MONITORING, EVALUATION AND REPORTING (PMER) UNIT,
AMERICAS, in Panama
Senior Officer in PMER
April 2007 – March 2009
Main responsibilities:

To line manage the Zone PMER Unit and the Unit's Reporting and Planning Officers to
ensure its functions to agreed timelines, budget and objectives.








Technical manager to the Zone’s PMER network - comprised of 5 Reporting Officers.
To work closely with the Federation’s various offices in the Americas and the Zone
Financial Unit, the Zone’s Red Cross National Societies as appropriate to provide
technical services and support to ensure that all operational documentation for donors
(development and emergency appeals, mid-term, final and specific reports, project
proposals, grant applications) comply with the agreed deadline, format, procedures
and quality standards, and to ensure that proper planning and monitoring mechanisms
are in place.
To assess, map out and generate a reliable and sustainable network of operational
PMER skills across the region through training, workshops and other capacity building
initiatives.
In conjunction with colleagues from relevant sections throughout the Federation, to
review the Federation's various planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting tools,
training methodologies, systems and equipment, updating/adjusting as and when
necessary.
To undertake any other related tasks and activities as may be reasonably requested by
the Head of Zone and/or Deputy Head of Zone.
To be the focal point for Geneva’s Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting
department in the Americas Zone.
To provide feedback on new policies being developed in PMER and to support their
implementation in the Americas.
Travel to the Secretariat in Geneva and/or Federation offices and Americas Red Cross
National Societies for various meetings and to provide support in PMER issues.
Achievements:

Improved, better flowing working relationship with internal clients.

Development of Standard Operational Procedures for Reporting to be implemented
throughout the Americas.

Bringing together for the first time the Americas reporting network for a team-building
exercise.

Successfully managing the Zone Reporting Unit (now PMER unit) through a relevant
transition stage in the Federation.

Development and initial roll-out of a continental project monitoring tool.

Supporting the implementation of a new Federation Planning methodology.

REPORTING UNIT, AMERICAS, in Panama
Regional Reporting Officer

Main responsibilities:

To coordinate the compilation of quality, timely Federation standard narrative reports,
pledge based reports and grant-based reporting in English for the Americas with the
guidance of the head of the regional reporting unit;

To carry out editing of reports in English and Spanish, and

To provide advice and training to the Federation’s offices and Red Cross National
Societies in the Americas on reporting issues.
Depending on needs and resources available, to write reports to ensure their timely
publication, travel to go to sources of information and/or contact National Societies to
acquire information for the production of reports.

Senior Language Specialist/Trainer/Interpreter

Main responsibilities:
As Senior Language Specialist/Trainer:

To deliver New Hire Orientation to new hires and training mentors for both
interpretation centers in Panama.

To supervise the performance or a group of 15 interpreters.

As staff member, to attend staff meetings and other relevant engagements.
As Pronunciation Enhancement Trainer:

To periodically deliver specialized training for groups of interpreters in the Panama
global centers.
As Interpreter:

As Certified Medical Interpreter for English-Spanish language pair, to deliver
specialized interpretation.
Achievements:

Development of the Pronunciation Enhancement Training module, used in the Panama,
Costa Rica and Dominican Republic global centers.
