Water Resource Education Mini-Grants
The Lake County Water Authority Board of Trustees announces a program to award mini-grants to public and
private educators in an effort to promote water resource education within Lake County schools. Topics that fall
within “water resources,” may include water conservation, wetlands, watershed, lakes & rivers, shoreline
vegetation, Floridan aquifer, and water quality. There will be two (2) types of mini-grants, one for
"Consumables" and the other for "Equipment."
Pending LCWA FY 2008-09 budget approval, teachers are asked to please fill out the grant application and
submit the completed form with 6 copies of grant application packet to Lake County Water Authority, 107 N.
Lake Avenue, Tavares, Florida 32778. Important: Itemized budgets attached to applications are needed for
grant approval.
a. Consumable grant - Grants of up to $700 each will be awarded for efforts to promote water resource
projects. No more than four (4) grants will be awarded to any one school. Water resource projects may
include the following:
*Field trip to an educational site for water resource related classes
*Registration to attend a water resource related conference to share with other educators
*Promotion of a school-wide water conservation or water resource awareness event
*Water resource books, posters, puppets, videos, CD’s, and computer software to share
b. Equipment grant - Grants of up to $1,500 each will be awarded for equipment related to water resource
projects. No more than two (2) grants will be awarded to any one school. Teachers are encouraged to work
together on the application. Water resource equipment may include the following:
*Water quality monitoring, and sampling – nets, meters, waders, test kits, etc.
*Microscopes or microscope cameras, lenses
*Education models depicting –aquifer function, wetland function, river & stream tanks, etc.
c. Responsibilities – Teachers are responsible for keeping all paperwork as proof of purchases and
expenditure of funds in accordance with the mini-grant. Prices for field trip (e.g., Trout Lake, Alexander
Springs, etc.) admissions or bus charters/school buses must be clearly stated in the grant application.
Substitutions after awards have been granted will be considered by submitting a written request to Patricia
Burgos, LCWA. Reimbursement arrangements will be made with private school winners.

Please note: Awarded grant funds will be given to the LCSB winner’s school for disbursement. Reimbursement
arrangements will be made with private school winners. You may submit more than one application. One original and five
copies (6 total) of each application packet must be submitted to be considered. E-mails or faxed copies will not be
accepted.
Remember to include costs of shipping & handling, and discounts you receive as an educator. Also, please remember
that new catalogs are issued in January with price changes.
