INTRODUCTION
With changes expected at Easter 2014 with the creation of the new
Diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales with its five Episcopal
Areas, and the consequential transfer of several parishes to the
Diocese of Blackburn, this long-standing publication will no doubt
undergo change in content and format. That is one of the many
decisions awaiting the Bishop’s Council when it is up and running
later next year.
To enable everyone to start to think in terms of the new
configurations, I have prepared this current edition on the basis of
bringing together the weekly intentions into groupings of benefices
within their new Areas and ignored the current deaneries.
In
order that all benefices are covered in this edition, I have
encroached into February 2014 by one week.
I am, as always, grateful to those who have given suggestions and
amendments to me over recent months.
In order that I may
continue to keep the data up to date, could I ask that you re-visit
this latest text again and let me have any errors and new
suggestions for the February onwards edition. It is particularly
helpful to ensure that the prayer intentions are relevant to the
benefice’s current needs.
So if you wish to amend and provide a couple of new short phrases,
I will try to incorporate them. The deadline for these thoughts
would be the end of November and, sent to me at:
8 Malham Court, Silsden, Keighley, BD20 0QB
or malcolm.halliday@btinternet.com
Sudan is in flux with nine tenths of the country going about life as
normal and one tenth engaged in a localised civil war with many
civilians suffering. Please go online for the latest news:

possible.

Almighty and eternal God,
your Spirit guides the Church
and makes it holy.
Hear our prayers
for every member of the Body of Christ
everywhere in the world.
In particular we remember
the churches
of the current Dioceses of Bradford, Ripon & Leeds and Wakefield
and their decades of loving witness to your truth.
By the power of your Spirit
help them to do your work
during this period of change
with faithfulness and devotion
and inspire with that same Spirit
the members of the Vacancy in See Committee
and Crown Nominations Commission
as they consider who to nominate
to be the first Diocesan Bishop of Leeds
with overall responsibility for West Yorkshire and the Dales.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
